Could Vick protesters resurface?

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 3:57 PM

With the great success that Michael Vick is having this season there is always the chance that animal rights protesters could surface once again and picket outside the stadiums whenever the Eagles are playing.

Vick said that he hadn't given the idea much thought.

"My life is moving in the proper direction," the Eagles quarterback said Wednesday after practice. "I'm doing all the right things on and off the field. I try not to worry about the negative."

If there have been any protesters thus far this season, they've done their business under the radar.

Vick, meanwhile, has continued to support the Humane Society of the United States and has made public appearances at local high schools to speak out against dogfighting.

"Oh, yeah, I embrace that," Vick said. "It's a good opportunity for me to show that I basically want to be part of the solution and not the problem and help them in whatever way I can and try to put a stop to dogfighting as a whole. So it's just something we're working on. We know it's a work in progress. But, hey, you got to start somewhere."

Vick was asked if some of his former acquaintances -- either the ones that were a bad influence or the ones that abandoned him when he was sent to prison -- have resurfaced in his life now that he's seemingly on top of the NFL world.

"A lot of people don't have access to me so they can't reach me anymore, which is a good thing," Vick said. "I've totally separated myself from a lot of people. I'm just back to dealing with people I know, love and care about."

Every significant problem in society can be sourced to one area above all--ill-prepared, incompetent, uncommitted parents. Outside of his sin against animals, which he learned from adults, Vick has been a pretty solid citizen, even before coming to Philly. I was thrilled when we picked him up and am thrilled to see him flourishing as a Bird. One of the all-time most amazing sports stories if he can keep it up.

it's amazing when the media doesn't have much to write about so they bring up things like this. LEAVE IT ALONE! we all learn from mistakes.. either in this life or another. Karma takes care of everything and the worst thing we can do is live our lives in the past. resurfacing these things brings up racial stuff, evil comments and discussion. Let it go. Love yall. GO EAGLES!!!

Good thought twisted. ^^ Maybe we should start protesting these poorly written, insidious articles. At this point, articles such as this are nothing more than a straw man.

WRONG JHJACK< first off he did zero time for dog killing, he did time because he ran an interstate gambling operation. Vick is scum, no matter how dumb you idiot fans suck his balls, and that is what you would do, he is ghetto scum. You people are pathetic.

Philly may be called the "City of Brotherly Love," which is more often than not a misnomer. Let the protesters come to a home game now they would be lucky to escape with their lives. The chants they would hear will most likely be "I am my Brothers keeper."

Who cares if they return or not? The guy has served his punishment and it's time to move on. People who are true fans of the sport and actually follow football know that Vick is worth all the hype, and not for the dog fighting. This is the QB we've been waiting for, not that McChoke poser. Anyone who can't move past this is just a hate filled loser frustrated with his own life. I actually feel sorry for people like them.

Yes everyone, get over the dog killer so these loser fans can claim to be part of a "winner" guilt free. I wonder if all you apologists would be so forgiving and preaching about 2nd chances if Vick wasn't a football player but a dog killer who moved next door to you and worked at a factory. I highly doubt it. Hypocrites. So desperate to feel like a winner you will root for anyone.

This quote from DeSean Jackson after Monday Night says it all about Michael Vick's impact. "We were like pit bulls ready to get out of the cage."
