Could Vick protesters resurface?

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 3:57 PM

With the great success that Michael Vick is having this season there is always the chance that animal rights protesters could surface once again and picket outside the stadiums whenever the Eagles are playing.

Vick said that he hadn't given the idea much thought.

"My life is moving in the proper direction," the Eagles quarterback said Wednesday after practice. "I'm doing all the right things on and off the field. I try not to worry about the negative."

If there have been any protesters thus far this season, they've done their business under the radar.

Vick, meanwhile, has continued to support the Humane Society of the United States and has made public appearances at local high schools to speak out against dogfighting.

"Oh, yeah, I embrace that," Vick said. "It's a good opportunity for me to show that I basically want to be part of the solution and not the problem and help them in whatever way I can and try to put a stop to dogfighting as a whole. So it's just something we're working on. We know it's a work in progress. But, hey, you got to start somewhere."

Vick was asked if some of his former acquaintances -- either the ones that were a bad influence or the ones that abandoned him when he was sent to prison -- have resurfaced in his life now that he's seemingly on top of the NFL world.

"A lot of people don't have access to me so they can't reach me anymore, which is a good thing," Vick said. "I've totally separated myself from a lot of people. I'm just back to dealing with people I know, love and care about."

Yet another story about the Eagles on Philly.com. YAWN. They need to let this dog issue go already, it's getting as old as the snowball-santa story.

Doing the right things for "quite some time now" might be a stretch. There was a shooting outside his birthday party where the victim was one of the men who went to prison as a result of being part of the dog ring. Police couldn't get witnesses to cooperate, hardly sqeaky clean if you ask me, which you didn't, but I'm entitled to my opinion too. Also, it was the taxes, not the dog crimes that got him in jail. He also hid money to avoid paying creditors, hardly a saint. He also wants to stick it to Atlanta which I will never understand. The organization made him the highest paid quarterback and through no one's fault but his own, he blew it. He lied to them when asked if the allegations were true. Were they supposed to stop everything and wait for him? They let him go so he could have a fresh start, maybe he should be thankful for that. Less tempation and all. I'm curious to see how Vick will handle being very rich again. Will he fall back into old traps? Time will tell.

This just in! Walmart is having a special on Dr. Mikey brand toilet paper! Every sheet is printed with the same, tired whiny BS that he has become famous for AND what better use for those words than what he is literally told to do with them every day? AND for every roll purchased Walmart will return to mikey the same, tired 2 cents he feels he has to put in on philly.com every friggin' day. Congrats mikey!

These people defending Vick are THE SAME people blasting the Eagles when they signed him. How does a guys play redeem him in your fickle minds? Are you seriously that materialistic? I believe he served his time after Levenworth, that's it. Just cause he has you giggling like a little girl on Sunday's should not change your opinion about a man. Fantasy land people. Love billhicks posts. There have been many more people who have served much longer sentences for cruelty, although as was already pointed out that's not what his sentence was for. If you barkers support him so much, outside of his play, why not volunteer at PSPCA or ACCT and actually do something more than lip service?

Well you're doing your best to make that happen aren't you whoever the hell Jeff McLame is.

But you know I hope those Cookie-baking-out-of-touch-white suburban housewives do protest. I'm sure they live in lovely neighborhoods. Oh.. by the way. Black people need not apply.

Mike Vick is proof of the simple fact that God is man's judge and not man. Because human beings in vast numbers are plotting lying follower, sheep. Mike commits a crime against animals and he is the worst guy on earth, (at the same time mind you that our fair city is going through a crisis of a murder a day for months). The man gets convicted, loses his job, and his freedom, does his time, gets out, and attempts to rebuild his life. And still these hypocrites yell, he is guy the worst guy on earth! Andy Reid gets called an idiot who just felt bad for his junkie children (regardless of the fact that he got us close to the super bowl dance repeatedly and once in it.) And then, Mike has a great game for the ages and all of a sudden we love him and Andy Reid might know something we don't. hahaha. People suck. I am so happy that God is the ultimate judge. Way to go Vick!!! Well done brother! Even though I am confused as to why anyone is that shocked anyway. The man was magnificent before he went to prison. I pray that one day people will get over themselves and worry more about their own sins and failures then they do the sins and failures of the next man. This just goes to show that God decides who wins, and loses, and shines in the end. And God also forgives. Even when men and women don't. GO BIRDS!!! GO ANDY!!! AND GO VICK!!!!!

You don't like Mike Vick don't watch. I'll bet the NFL comissioner knows at least three rich Texans who fight dogs. I'm sure that Cowboys owner has been to a few barbecues where some wagering on dog fights went down. We send people to prison for punishment and rehabilitation. Would they be protesting Mike Vick if he was working at McDonalds? Why can't he play football, they have football teams in prison to help with rehabilitation.

I admit that Vick has played extremely well lately, but I will never be able to get over the fact that he participated in the brutal murders of dogs. I am ashamed to admit that I am from Philadelphia.
