Could Vick protesters resurface?

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 3:57 PM

With the great success that Michael Vick is having this season there is always the chance that animal rights protesters could surface once again and picket outside the stadiums whenever the Eagles are playing.

Vick said that he hadn't given the idea much thought.

"My life is moving in the proper direction," the Eagles quarterback said Wednesday after practice. "I'm doing all the right things on and off the field. I try not to worry about the negative."

If there have been any protesters thus far this season, they've done their business under the radar.

Vick, meanwhile, has continued to support the Humane Society of the United States and has made public appearances at local high schools to speak out against dogfighting.

"Oh, yeah, I embrace that," Vick said. "It's a good opportunity for me to show that I basically want to be part of the solution and not the problem and help them in whatever way I can and try to put a stop to dogfighting as a whole. So it's just something we're working on. We know it's a work in progress. But, hey, you got to start somewhere."

Vick was asked if some of his former acquaintances -- either the ones that were a bad influence or the ones that abandoned him when he was sent to prison -- have resurfaced in his life now that he's seemingly on top of the NFL world.

"A lot of people don't have access to me so they can't reach me anymore, which is a good thing," Vick said. "I've totally separated myself from a lot of people. I'm just back to dealing with people I know, love and care about."

It's sad that people harp on Vick like he's the worst human on earth. You don't hear a peep about Big Ben raping under age girls (humans) or Stalworth getting drunk a killing a HUMAN. Remember the guy who was a Ram and got drunk and killed a mother then played in the Super Bowl shortly thereafter? Not a peep. Where is the perspective?

Actually rustypop, people have raised their voices about the people you cite. You are just being selective in what you choose to hear it would seem.

jhjack: Vick didn't serve time for abusing animals. Look it up. His jail time was for violating commerce laws.

Animal protesters only have the right to protest if they don't believe in redemption not reform. I don't know if Vick is reformed, but by the same point he seems like a very different person now.

here's an example of the media trying to force a controversy to happen. jeff mclane, do you want protesters to resurface so you can write controversial articles about vick again? please, his on-the-field play has practically written the articles for you. cut this drama nonsense out.

Jeff. Very disappointed that you felt the need to write this piece. Just to spark controversy. If a protest takes place, write about it. Otherwise, please write about newsworthy events related to the team.

Just because he can throw a football and run and served time in jail does not mean that he is not a low-life. It just means that he got caught being who he is. He denied involvement until they turned the key on his jail cell. Redemption was forced upon him, and he is just going along now to make money.

Area Man-you are right on point.
Mabus- your con Vick apologist talking points are tiresome and unsettling. You root for a guy who killed dogs for his "jollies" and now you get your "jollies" defending his hateful actions.
