Could Vick protesters resurface?

POSTED: Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 3:57 PM

With the great success that Michael Vick is having this season there is always the chance that animal rights protesters could surface once again and picket outside the stadiums whenever the Eagles are playing.

Vick said that he hadn't given the idea much thought.

"My life is moving in the proper direction," the Eagles quarterback said Wednesday after practice. "I'm doing all the right things on and off the field. I try not to worry about the negative."

If there have been any protesters thus far this season, they've done their business under the radar.

Vick, meanwhile, has continued to support the Humane Society of the United States and has made public appearances at local high schools to speak out against dogfighting.

"Oh, yeah, I embrace that," Vick said. "It's a good opportunity for me to show that I basically want to be part of the solution and not the problem and help them in whatever way I can and try to put a stop to dogfighting as a whole. So it's just something we're working on. We know it's a work in progress. But, hey, you got to start somewhere."

Vick was asked if some of his former acquaintances -- either the ones that were a bad influence or the ones that abandoned him when he was sent to prison -- have resurfaced in his life now that he's seemingly on top of the NFL world.

"A lot of people don't have access to me so they can't reach me anymore, which is a good thing," Vick said. "I've totally separated myself from a lot of people. I'm just back to dealing with people I know, love and care about."

maybe, maybe not. But people like "Dr." Michael will comment incessantly, repeating the same tired talking points no matter what he does. It's kind of an old Roman bloodthirst mixed with hatred.

it really doesn't matter; his on the field play and those cheer will drown-out those distractors. It's called redemption, and all of us nedd it in some area of our life; his happens to be playing out in the public eye.

I wonder how the Vick haters feel about Big Ben in Pittsburgh. Probably love him.

Glad to see that most of the comments are from reasonable people who realize that he did his time, he's been doing the right things for quite some time now so he deserves a chance at redemption. If he signs a big contract, starts feeling invinceable again and then reverts back to old ways, then he deserves whatever people want to dish out. Let's just hope that doesn't happen.

exactly gho_matt... I love animals and despise what vick did, but he served his time, and I also am understanding of the situation that led him to fund dogfighting. the point is he is taking the steps to help repair some of the pain he cause. if you want to protest something, go protest the fact that child molesters get let back in the streets only to commit their unspeakable crimes again and again. go protest the fact that the twisted US healthcare system bankrupts families trying to keep their sick child from dying.

Protest people who didn't serve time for their actions like 3 months for vehicular manslaughter, Ogresburger, or Martha's vacation. Vick spent 2 years in Leavenworth, come on guys!

who cares if they resurface? Just be some dimwits getting laughed at by fans on their way to the game.

Way to go Mike Vick. He has managed to go over two years without killing a dog. It must be hard for him. Keep up all the good work off the field of not electrocuting, strangling or drowning any dogs.

I was pretty upset when the Eagles signed Vick. I have always been an Eagles fan, and I have always had dogs. I have four dogs now and I can't imagine anyone hurting them. With that being said, Vick has grown on me. He is an amazing athlete who is taking the Eagles on quite an adventure, and I look at it this way: he is here in Philadelphia to lead the Eagles to victory, not be a role model or watch my dogs for me if I go away for the weekend. Let's all move on.

The animals rights groups have been rather quiet thus far, and if by some strange reason they resurface, what they (animal groups) need at that point is to have their behinds kicked. Just like the media needs to have their behinds fired and kicked for continuously trying to incite protests and riots. Vick has and is doing all the things on and off the field that has been asked of him, and from some reports he has done more than what has been asked of him. It seems as if the Phildelpia media has a real issue with Vick getting all of this positive publicity which is nothing more than ridiculous, which is one of the reason why I will always believe they had a hand in that incident with that birthday party. I will never understand why the women's rights group never protested Ben Roethlisberger even though he was never charged, had they been as aggressive with Ben as PETA was with Vick there would have been charges. Michael Vick needs to continue doing what he is doing and the media in Philidelphia need to get a life.

can we watch 1 game where they don't mention 12 times that he was incarcerated - we all know - and I've watched numerous PETA documentaries - they go under cover and film people doing the most horrendous things to animals - and NEVER _ NEVER do these scumbags get jail time - they get nominal fines - Vick is the most punished animal abuser this country has ever had - I defy anyone to find an animal abuser in this country who has paid a higher price than Vick - get over it
