Could the Eagles chase Sean Payton?
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
The multi-year contract extension Sean Payton signed with the Saints in September 2011 was voided by the NFL within the year, making the suspended head coach a free agent after this season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
In the report, Schefter mentions the Dallas Cowboys as the most likely team to chase the Super-Bowl winning coach, but the Eagles would certainly have to be considered among others that would want Payton.
The Eagles, of course, still have a head coach. But Andy Reid's hold on his job is slipping with his team 3-4 and the Eagles in jeopardy of failing to show the "substantial improvement" owner Jeffrey Lurie said the team must show for Reid to return for a 15th season.
The Eagles finished 8-8 last season and have not won a playoff game since 2008. Reid has another year left on his contract, but Lurie said in August he would not consider a possible extension until after this season.
The Saints announced an extension with Payton last year that would keep him in New Orleans until 2015. But the deal was voided because of his role in "Bountygate," in which the NFL said that Saints defensive players were rewarded for taking out opposing players.
Some believe Payton would likely re-negotiate a contract with the Saints when he returns from a one-year suspension because of his relationship with owner Tom Benson. The 48-year-old, though, has ties to several teams that could be in search of a new coach after the season.
Dallas would be an obvious destination. Payton was an assistant coach with the Cowboys from 2003-05 and he recently purchased a home in the Dallas area. Current Cowboys coach Jason Garrett still has two years left on his contract and would need to have a disastrous second half of the season, some around the team believe, to not return.
Payton was the Eagles' quarterbacks coach from 1997-98 when Lurie was early in his tenure as Eagles owner. He briefly lived in Newtown Square, Pa. as a youth and has spoken fondly of his time living in the area.
He once told a story about standing on Route 202 with a sign celebrating one of the Flyers' Stanley Cup titles in the 1970s.
A lot would have to occur for Payton to end up in Philly. Considered one of the best offensive minds in the game, he would have to find the Eagles' quarterback situation appealing to come back. Michael Vick has three years left on his contract, but he's guaranteed only $3 million. Rookie Nick Foles is an unknown entity.
If the Eagles' season continues to go down the tube, the candidates to replace Reid will only grow. There are the obvious big names, like Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden, former Super Bowl-winning coaches that have become broadcasters. There are also hot college coaches like Oregon's Chip Kelly and Alabama's Nick Saban.
WHy are we even discussing this, he won't be leaving New Orleans anyways? Philliefan75inAZ
If I were the owner I would be on Sean Payton like a dog on a pork chop. His ability to game plan and make in game adjustments is a significant upgrade from the current coach. I wish Andy Reid nothing but good luck in his future endeavors and thank him for his service. One thing is for certain, he has no future in broadcasting - thank goodness. bigcityballer
And why would Payton leave New Orleans? More importantly, why would he come here? dlivesay
CHIP KELLY..ALL DAY

Whoever replaces Andy needs to be confident, aggressive with the draft & free agency, and know how to manage the game clock. No more "business-like manners or corporate mindsets"...this is freakin pro football and you need to be aggressive and ready to get hurt and play old school. Look at Baltimore, NY Giants, SF 49'ers. Lurie, if you want to win, let the men play this game the way it's supposed to be played. sj1926
can someone help me understand why when the eagles beat the cowboys probably twice this year everyone will be happy again and keep putting up with this BS. wacoken
Tony Dungy would build an excellent defense, given enough time to go through two or three drafts. Sean Payton is an excellent game-day coach, creator of mismatches, and clock manager. It is hard to know how well he'd perform with a run-of-the-mill QB, but a long playoff run is unlikely. No matter who Lurie hires as a head coach, it will not matter a bit if he does not first establish a legitimate front office. What the best franchises in the game all have is depth of credible front office personnel, by which I mean talented, competitive dogs who hustle for and answer to a savvy top dog. Green Bay, Pittsburgh and New York all have teams that are run by admired and recognized front offices. Granted, all these teams have franchise QB's, but that is no coincidence - each organization knew what it needed, and went out and got it. In the case of the Giants it was a tad on the melodramatic side, but, 2 titles later - who's complaining? Notice that none - not Coughlin, not Tomlin, not McCarthy - none of these coaches have ever been invited into their respective front offices. And if any of these three were to step down or move on or die, I don't think any of these teams would miss a beat. Lurie should hire Bill Polian and son. That would be a great start on the road to credibility gnarlyscuzz
What is it with you people. Every year you keep throwing out names of coaches that you think could replace Reid. How many times does Cowher and Gruden have to tell you noodnincs they are NOT coming back to coaching. Amazing how people forget it took Cowher 13 years to win his Sper Bowl. Gruden used the ex coaches players to win his Super Bowl then was never competitive again! If your going to replace Reid it has to be with a top notch coordinator who is ready to move up. If you want a retread go back to the NHL, the NBA or MLB. sdking1112
I gotta say, ever since he's been suspended from the league, he now has the perfect mentality for the team and should fit right in with the new Eagles "Felons and Frauds" team they are putting together! Maybe get Ray Rice, Donte Stallworth, and Ben Roethlisberger to round out the felons/felon wanna-be's! gdibig
First of all, what makes everyone so sure Reid is gone? If they go 10-6 and win a wildcard game, will Lurie fire him? Eagles traditionally a 2nd half of the season team.
But if he does get fired, give me a seasoned coach, not another first-timer. mportik- Do you seriously think this team will win SEVEN more games (to get to 10 wins) this season with the schedule they have? I realistically don't see more than three or four wins (including splits with Dal and Wash):
NO - Loss
Dal - Split
WAS - Split
CAR - Loss
Dal - Split
Tampa - Maybe
Cinci - Loss
WAS - Split
NYG - if they are resting players we'll still lose!
gdibig - He's dreaming obviously. These are the Philadelphia Eagles we're talking about. The Philadelphia Eagles led by the bumbling, stumbling, fumbling tandem of Andy Reid and his idiot sidekick- Need I say it?- Marty Moronweg. essell
Why is it that bad behaviour is ALWAYS rewarded in professional sports ..... and Wall Street.... as long as it leads to THAT SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS! dsg00
WHO DAT?
Gonna sack Ron Mexico and help Fat Andy retire? BigHittas
If Lurie hired Gruden it would only be a matter of time before Eagles' fans grew tired of seeing Chucky's facial expressions. Trust me, I moved to the Tampa area in '95 and I watched how the Bucs' fans bashed him when his team started to go down hill. You think Lurie is a bad owner?! The Glazers are the epitome of bad owners! spz74
Gruden won the super bowl tony dungy was poised to do just that got ousted before he could finish the job!!! Gruden will be a death wish for our city besides that you think hes leavin the mnf booth to go coach in philly and be under the gun for entire stay i think not lol!!!! DJ_Bootleggah- It's a shame you don't know bother to research a subject thoroughly BEFORE you post a comment otherwise you'd realize your post is a reflection of hearsay and distortion of the facts behind what REALLY took place during Gruden's tenure at Tampa Bay. essell
bottom line is you guys are all fooling yourself if you really think hes going to leave drew breeze for mike vick or tony romo whos even worst then vick lol!!! get over it next candidate lol!!! DJ_Bootleggah- You're fooling yourself if you think Vick will be here after this year! He's due something like a $5 million roster bonus the 3rd day of next league year! He'll be gone along with Reid right after they lose the last game in December!

Jaws for president of football operations, a la Elway. Let him have complete power to hire and fire everyone. Return this organization to some connection with it's past history. I trust Jaws judgement on a GM pick, and their pick together of a head coach. There is no way Andy can go and Howie can stay in any role involving football decisions. Bring in Jaws to rebuild this organization more conventionally, you know with known football knowledge and experience. The organization is adrift. We need to start over like an expansion franchise. Football people in the front office, proven football coaches on the sidelines, and NFL caliber athletes on the field. There is little talent worth saving in the front office (gutted of evaluators by AR), on the sidelines (hand picked by AR), or on the roster (decided on by AR) at the moment. Step one is hiring Jaws, his rolodex is full of talented front office and coaching candidates. I trust his judgement on coaching and personnel, I don't want him to be GM but to hire a great one. bentlip
Gruden and Payton both WON SUPER BOWLS...Eagles have not won Super Bowl in over 50 years. Bob112
Jon Gruden, please. Chucky head-coaching here would be the ultimate. gho_matt
Sean Payton is staying in New Orleans.
His new extension will be more valuable than his last one.
Next story. EmanuelP
Yes, the Eagles should fire Reid and try to hire Payton or Cowher, if they don't make the playoffs. MUADDIB
What makes you think Sean Payton wants to be controlled by that saggy-faced Megalomaniac in Dallas? He might rather accept coach/control the draft kind of guy like Andy ONLY capable of "CWC"...coaching without choking...one can dream, no>?>? BirdinParadise
Gruden or Payton would both be great additions. I would take either in a heartbeat. Gruden is a great coach and he def has the same talent he did in TB in regards to defense. He would do wonders with that defensive line and the secondary. Payton is an excellent offensive minded coach. Get AR and MM out of there and let Payton do his work. With the weapons in Shady, Maclin, Djax, Avant, and Celek he could def do some damage. Once the line gets healthy again then they would be set. Start fresh with Foles and get your starting line back and you could be in line for great years to come. Foles is a big, strong QB that can see over the line. Once they're line gets healthy they'll be fine. phillyallday11
I can tell you this: Under either Payton or Gruden, the Eagles would cease to be the team that eternally bungles clock management and timeouts. Neither of those gentlemen would tolerate such clownishness. Dave Clemens
C'mon ....with al the sappy bleeding hearts on this thread....this is a SPORTS THREAD...A PLACE TO VENT, A PLACE TO DUMP, A PLACE TO SAY WHAT YOU WANT (in a matter of speaking) to clear your mind of the nonsence WE as FANS must endure week after miserable week! CurletQlink....remember a couple of things, these people, meaning the Eagles personnel, coaches, & owners are billionaire's, millionaire's that suck the life out of a working class community for 16 plus weeks a year! Not to mention the off season when everybody tries to fix the team through talk radio segments that all but drain your your cell phone battery because you wait over an hour to speak your mind! Point is, the BEAGLES are & have been a TRAIN WRECK for a long time! It all starts at the top & flushes down, kind of like a penthouse suite bathroom in the SEARS TOWERS. But fear not, the dying faithful will show up on sunday's to sit in uncomfortable seats, pay more than a benny to take a friend or their son....for what? MEDIOCRITY ! Forget the KODAK moment, watching these overrated rich kids play slop football is slowly destroying my eyesight! So, if the faithful start calling for A.Reid's head on a stick, or they want MiniMin (M.Vick)fed to a pack of hyennia's, & J. Lurie hung in effigy outside the NovaCare Complex, it's ok! My name is Frank Castle & I approve this message ! frank castle
Payton . . .like Dungy, Coughlin, Shanahan . . . won a super bowl with a HALL OF FAME QUARTERBACK.
Doesn't mean they are great coaches. They were in the right place at the right time, like Gruden in Tampa Bay.
wordsword
From your mouth to HIS ears....We would take him in a minute....but cannot see the Saints giving up on him....and would he rather have Drew Brees or Michael as his starter....and he won't do Dallas as JJ is to much of a meddler where in NO or Philly the owner stays out of things......But we can only hope....Gruden got his ring with someone else's team and loves the monehy and the tv stage where everyone genuflects to him......Cowher and Jaws love their jobs.....Chip Kelly would be interesting choice....and Saban would not have a recruiting edge and the players at this level are not intimadated by his hypocraisy and college controlling lying and hype....... nuggett
Payton please. While I like Reid, it's been time for him to go. His "style" is not working. Now that a quality coach, with a grudge no less, is available we should move on it now. By the way Gruden is not a good coach in my opinion. Dungy is. brownrice
There are some things I like about Gruden. First, he'll devise a game plan specific to the opponent, regardless of whether the plan calls for running the ball or passing the ball. Second, if Plan A isn't working he has Plan B, then Plan C, and so on. Actually, most head coaches plan this way, that is except Andy, who says this is what we do (pass the ball) and if we execute properly the opponent won't be able to stop us, even if they know what's coming.
We haven't had an innovative offense since Gruden left town or a good defensive unit since Jim Johnson died and I can't remember the last time our team played an inspired, disciplined game for 60 minutes.
Finally, we need a guy who actually knows how to put his players in a better position to make plays and who's less predictable.
The name of the next Eagles head coach isn't as important as his ability to address the above-mentioned issues.
Gruden, Cowher, Peyton.....any of them would be fine. All we can do for now is hope Lurie sees the light, pulls the plug, then goes out and gets the best guy available. spaza837
Gruden? Hahhahahaha... That's a good one. He wins with Dungy's players, then proceeds to be absolutely horrible until he to run out of Tampa. Be carful what you wish for....
And the system hat Andy runs and his "philosophy" that is so bad to everyone now....not only did it get to 5 NFC title games and a Super Bowl here....it won many SB's in Green Bay and San Francisco. Same offense, same style, SAME PHILOSOPHY.
Vick is the problem. Andy is a quality coach, but a really bad "personnel" executive... cdedrick05
i too hope the eagles lose the rest of their gamesso that reid gets fired.sad to say ,i hope the cowboys sweep them and beat them real bad, that would almost guarantee reids firing. swgaston
Just don't think he will leave NO. He probably feels an obligation to Breeze. We are not competing with Cowboys because Jerry won't pay big money to coaches. Lurie would open up the checkbook. Drew777
Payton would be a godsend. He is a metro philly guy and I am sure doesn't want to deal with JR Ewing, I mean Jerry Jones. Lurie is a hands off owner and Payton could mold his team into a winner, such as he did in Bayouville. Best case is Reid goes and Payton comes in for tomorrow nite's game, but that ain't gonna happen. momzer1812
HOPE THE EAGLES LOSE TOMORROW. SO ANDY REFUSE TO COME BACK TO PHILADELPHIA TO FACE MEDIA AND FANS AND JUST STAY IN NEW ORLEANS,CALL HIS WIFE TO PACK AND FOLLOW HIM DOWN THERE.WE JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE PHILADELPHIA POLICE DEPARTMENT LOCKS DOWN AIRPORT, I 95, AND PORTS SO ANDY REID DOESN'T ENTER IN PHILADELPHIA ANYMORE. jkazongo
How's this - he goes to the hospital thinking he had a heart attack but it turns out to be a bad case of indigestion. However, it still scares him enough to retire. ziggy26
Don't forget that Payton is a good friend of Parcells, who hates Jerry Jones. Payton was mentored by Parcells. oharabri
I don't remember the exact stats, but odds of a super bowl winning coach winning again with a new team are VERY low, if not at all...Peyton sounds sexy, but I'd have to take the other side of that one. mlwmlw
Lurie shoulda shipped Fat Boy to Baltimore, and kept Harbaugh...
THAT'S the one that got away. Nicher
Why would Payton want to come here? Lurie and Roseman will find some unknown and the idiot fans will still sell out. Lurie will laugh all the way to the bank and we will be ringless. Pete60

My favorite Eagles coach of all time was Buddy Ryan. If Ryan had an owner like Lurie the Eagles would have had multiple Super Bowls. Ryan's Bounty Bowls against Dallas were priceless. Troy Aiken still doesn't remember half of the games he played against the Eagles. The Birds under Ryan used to knock him silly. I can't imagine how potent this offense would be under Payton and with Brees at QB. BRING THEM ON. garcia7- Ryan had some of the greatest offensive players in those years. He ended up with zero playoff wins because he didn't know how to devise a offensive gameplan.
Buddy's record- 43-38-1
Playoff- 0-3
I would hardly say he was one of the greats. He was certainly a fan favorite.
You know, there's 32 teams in the NFL. bobbyd24- Dallas will never have another big name/proven head coach as long as JJ owns them. No established coach would tolerate JJ's meddling. Payton will probably stay in NO.
They are going to hire a no name coach. Remember, they are smarter than us all and are out to prove it. mish798798
Does Jeff Mclane know how bad his haircut is? carlosbeltran
Some interesting comments and some moronic nonsense. Let's try to maintain some perspective. If the Eagles continues to disappoint it will be time for a change. And Coach Reid will have many options and likely eventually succeed with a little luck elsewhere. It's just a game. mlogan49
Sean Payton can have his pick of jobs. Why come to a dysfunctional organization run by a weak owner with a fantasy football geek GM? The 2010 and 2011 drafts ensured this team is 5 years away. Foles was drafted in the 3rd round by the Eagles which means at best he is a 6th round talent and destined to go the way of Kolb if he is lucky.
Scope33
This is the Eagles, we will Get some no name coordinator with a big stack of notebooks. I would love to get either Payton or Gruden, anyone else would seem like a distant third yourdaddy!
Gruden ripped that Buc team apart after a Superbowl win with Dungy's players and left them in cap hell..... he got rid of guys to bring in his own washed up veterans that were total has beens. Gruden really took credit for something he didnt build so if you want him here get ready to lose for a long time. pr0f3ss0r- See above post, pr0f3ss0r. You guys are relying on hearsay passed down and distorted over a period of time which has taken on a false life of it's own. SMH. essell
Stop with Gruden! I lived in Tampa from 1996 till 2002. Even the players said Dungy deserved credit for Gruden winning. The simple fact is Gruden inherited a team ready to win with a solid defense and Kiffin as D coordinator. Gruden did add a spark on the offensive side that Dungy didn't have but that is it. And it was ridiculous how quickly after losing the core Dungy built Gruden had a losing team. flyersj1978- Gruden had a losing team because he was handicapped by the high draft trades and salary cap difficulties and that Tampa Bay had incurred as a result of deals it made with Oakland to acquire Gruden's services. The high draft picks sacrificed by the team to acquire Gruden, along with salary-cap issues and failed draft choices forced upon him by the now-departed Rich McKay (with whom Gruden had a bitter relationship) limited Gruden's ability to field the teams he wanted after that successful Super Bowl-winning season. THAT, and that alone, is the reason Gruden lost "the core Dungy built" . That "Gruden had a losing team". ANY coach would find it difficult to field a decent team under similar circumstances. In addition, your post is full of contradictions. Do your research. Gruden IS a GREAT coach. Great is a superlative reserved for those that are truly great by accomplishing great things. I'd say the Super Bowl qualifies. Andy Reid is not deserving of this adjective. His winning record can be attributed to the ratio of probability after surviving for FOURTEEN YEARS as Head Coach of the Eagles. Odds which would favor ANY former head coach (Marion Campbell, Ray Rhodes, Buddy Ryan, Rich Kotite) any one of whom probably would have won the Super Bowl in LESS than FOURTEEN YEARS given the same opportunity. Andy Reid is a big fat FAIL. essell
If Chip Kelly was the next coach, he would keep Vick for the uptempo game Kelly runs. Don't see Kelly leaving Oregon, has it too good there, and with Nike money, why bother with the headaches of the NFL. camasbud
Cheez...wishing anyone harm, Andy Reid or anyone for that matter because their job performance is not good, is unbelieveable. This is a game for God sake...and fans, no matter how much they dislike our plight as a team and it's leaders, is unforgiveable. I do not agree with how the Eagles are playing...but I do not condone rabid fans who have a mixed up sense of right and wrong. 5thstrretpast
Payton isnt leaving the Saints..... no way does he leave, the media is just blowing this one up. I believe his contract is technically not up being he was suspended it should roll back a year just like a players contract does. pr0f3ss0r
Polian/Payton and watch a competitive tea, again. oldBird
If you read the story, he recently bought a home in the Dallas area. He also has ties to Dallas. To me, that destination looks more likely, despite Jerry Jones. You never know, that could be his dream job, to be head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. watsonmr
No way Payton would go to Dallas. He can find plenty of other places without a meddling owner like Jerry Jones. Eagles should chase him and if they fail go after one of the Kellys at ND or Oregon. Lets Eat
Nick Saban leaving Alabama to coach the Eagles. That's hilarious! Or as the kids say ROTFLMAO! GreenWing
If Andy Reid had Drew Brees, we would be talking about the five year extension Reid just signed. Not saying Andy would all of a sudden learn when to use a timeout or make an in game adjustment. Just having a top 3-5 QB in the league makes up for a lot. chham57- No, we wouldnt. He HAD a top 3-5 QB in DONOVAN MCNABB. He had the 2nd freaking pick in the ENTIRE DRAFT. WHAT DID HE HAVE FOR OVER A DECADE. AND HE STILL FAILED. His system is a COMPLETE FAILURE in the biggest games and the playoffs with ANY QB. McNabb was a top 3-5 QB in his prime, and STILL FAILED. DUMB IDEAS STILL LOSE. Now if you have a great QB it can help you win, as in if you have a system that CAN win, then you might, but if you have a system that cant win a superbowl in the first place then its not going to matter.
Payton would be awesome...also that exciting Oregon Univ coach or Alabama coach would be worth an interview...DUMP VICK AND REID. Bob112
We do not need Sean Payton. We also do not need Gruden; all he knows how to do is run his mouth off. He never shuts up. Plus we already have the smartest coach in the NFL. We don't need another coach who in his own mind is the smartest NFL coach. I seriously hope the Eagles go winless for the remainder of this season. this is probably the only way that the Fat Man gets fried. oneway
Payton would be awesome but him already living in the Dallas area and ESPN reporting that he gets along well with Jerry Jones may make Philly a tough sell. Chip Kelly would be very interesting if he could get someone to coach defense. Please no Gruden. Tampa is still trying to recover from him. Luriesucks
shut up whiners! MRD

Hire a guy who headhunts opposing players and fire a guy who puts his own fans to sleep.

baughman, get off your high horse...Ashburn didnt call for his death, he called for him to have a heart attack, then resign. thingfish
billtfla I would be against Gruden as well. He's just Andy Reid Jr. in that he will force a square peg in a round hole and can't adjust on the fly. This team needs a defensive minded coach who will build a team knowing that we play outside in the northeast. lonewolf 10
Why would a football coach choose Phila over say Dallas given the talent of the players in both locations? Dexter- Two words.....Jerry Jones.
jimyd0315
For God's sake, forget Gruden. He is not a great coach. Get Tony Dunghy. billtfla- I beg to differ. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about football, to include the records and history of it's coaches, knows Gruden IS a great coach. Compared to Reid, there is no comparison. essell
- Is that a joke ? If it was it was pretty good. Tony Dungy is another weak coach that won one superbowl, finally, with the best QB in the league after failing over and over, and couldnt get it done in TB either. Gruden took the Raiders to 12-4 and a championship game and didnt have one losing season as coach of the Raiders, what have the raiders done since then ? NOTHING. Since gruden left the raiders have been ABYSMAL. And this guy had them DOMINATING and close to a SB, and then two years later wins the whole thing with a completely new team. That is called great coaching. No wonder you supported Andy all these years. Dungy is weak and is a guy that would take like a decade to win, if ever. Gruden can go somewhere and win NOW. IN ONE YEAR. Dungy is not much better then Andy and was fortunate to have Peyton Manning, if not, he would have never won, which is what happened in TB. Gruden went there and got Brad freaking Johnson to be a SUPERBOWL WINNING QUARTERBACK. THE LOW FAN IQ IS ABYSMAL TO WINNING.
- It's great to see at least ONE poster has done their research. In addition to compiling a 40–28 win-loss record (including playoffs) in four seasons with the Raiders, something heretofore not done, Gruden went to Tampa and WON the Super Bowl. Immediately after arriving in Tampa Charlie, Gruden RETOOLED THE OFFENSE with the addition of numerous free agents in order to fix the underperforming offense that played under Tony Dungee. THIS and similar movements is what helped propel the Bucs to the Super Bowl. Because of personal acrimony with Gruden, Warren Sapp OUT OF ANGER, was the first to make the (undying and untrue) declaration that Gruden won with Dungy's players. Make no mistake, Gruden is a GREAT coach and will take the Eagles to the Super Bowl in LESS than FOURTEEN YEARS. essell
- The same Gruden who couldn't make the playoffs his last 6 years coaching and won a Superbowl with a Dungy drafted team? Gruden needs to stay where he is now.

Please not Nick Saban, stay in college, Chip Kelly would be awfully intriguing PhillyRedHot
Blank checks to Sean Payton and Bill Polian. We'd win the Super Bowl within five years. iceman
Hoping the Saints beat us 72-0 tomorrow night with the tension and stress so Great upon Andy that he checks himself into a hospital with a heart attack, then resigns Ashburn072- Ashburn072- You should be ashamed of yourself. You choose as a sign-in name the last name of a man who stood for fair play, integrity and sportsmanship and have the temerity to hope that another human being is hospitalized with a life threatening condition all so that your beloved Eagles can improve their chances of winning. If you had the courage to give your real name, I have no doubt every single one of the Eagles' players would be happy to personally call you and tell you they don't want fans like you degrading their team by wearing the green and rooting for them. Andy Reid is more than a coach- he is a husband and father- to wish a heart attack on him is beneath contempt. Am I a fan of his coaching? No. That said even if we bring in Sean Peyton, John Gruden or anyone else you deem appropriate to lead the team, if they win the Superbowl we will all cry tears of joy, go to the parade, and then wake up the next morning and resume our lives. Is that momentary vicarious thrill worth your rooting for a man to be hospitalized? Like him or not, there's one thing we can all agree upon about Andy Reid- he knows more about football and has been more successful at it than you ever will. How do I know this? Simple- Right now Andy Reid is in New Orleans getting his team ready for a nationally televized game, while you my friend are sitting typing anonymously at a computer. If you are so full of football knowledge, how come you aren't on an NFL team's coaching staff? 99% of fans in Philly are great people who put their money and hearts on the line for the teams they love and bleed for- it's people like you who give the rest of us a bad name.
CurleyQLink - So you are calling for the physical death of a human being? You need to stay away from Eagles football for a while.
- He only said a heart attack, not death. Certiainly don't want that. And considering the scam artist has been badly morbidly obese for decades, that's not too farfetched. Bob1
Why not? We should make a trade of Andy Reid, Vick and a drug addict for Sean Payton, Brees and lil Wayne. lonewolf 10
