Cole fined $7,500 for Okung flip

POSTED: Wednesday, December 7, 2011, 1:07 PM

Will the Eagles beat the Dolphins Sunday to save their season for at least another week?
Yes. The hope for a playoff miracle will live on.
No. The last three games will determine only draft positioning and who gets fired.

Trent Cole said that he was fined $7,500 for his take down of Russell Okung, which tore the Seattle tackle's triceps and ended his season.

The Eagles defensive end said that he intended to appeal the fine.

"I'm not a dirty player," Cole said Wednesday. "At the time, all the stuff that led up to that, there was a lot of stuff that happened in that game. ... Watch that game closely and key on Okung and key on me and you'll see what I'm talking about."

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll called Cole's flip of Okung "out of line" last week and asked the NFL to look into the matter. On the play, which occurred near the end of the game, Okung blocked Cole for several seconds before Cole flipped him over his back WWF-style.

"He got grabbed under the arm and thrown down to the ground. It had nothing to do with the play. It wasn’t a late hit," Carroll said. "It might look like he was trying to disengage and that might be what they say and all, but it was really late and it was really out of line unfortunately."

"I heard his comments," Cole said of Carroll. "You all seen what happened. The guy was on my back after the whistle. He was holding me the whole game. If you look at that play he had me hooked. I'm running to the ball and he had me hooked."

Okung went after Cole after he was tossed to the ground and had to be restrained. Cole said that he was being compared to Detroit defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who was recently suspended two games for stepping on a player and who has been labeled by some to be a dirty player.

"They try to compare me to Suh up there," Cole said. "You can't compare me to that. I was in a situation."

Where is the video? I watched the game, but I recall a dirty play OR ANYONE MENTIONING IT EITHER.

Looks like Okung had a pretty good hold on Cole. What was Cole supposed to do, let a 300 pound dude just lay on his back? Pete didn't complain about Okung holding most of the game. Unless the rules changed, hooking a guy around the neck is holding. That was a terribly officiated game - what is offensive pass interference in this league?

i'll bet okung will think twice about continuing to hold a guy after the play next time. especially a guy like cole. this fine is a joke.

Juan Castillo was also fined for impersonating a defensive coordinator.
With all this talent who needs a real defensive coordinator 2011

Pete Carroll should talk about being "dirty". Look at the miss he left at at USC. Cole and Okung were beating each other to a pulp all game. Cole was wrong and caught and paid the price. The cost of two competitors fighting the good fight. I did not see any holding calls on Okung so Cole took the law in his won hands.

How can you not see holding on that very play Johnny? Okung is riding his back. Cole turned to pursue the ball and Okung is practically laying on the guy's back, that is holding should have been a penalty. What's clean about riding a guy down like that away from the ball after the whistle? He tried to flop because all Cole did was shrug his shoulder for the guy to get off him, but Okung ended up getting hurt trying to take a flop. Someone on this board is always talking about karma... well there you have it... karma... it's a....

what a joke! anyone who ever played organized football would not think that is dirty (and yes I have). Dude had him hooked (which is a penalty). It stinks that the guy is out for the season - karma's a beeeeech.

If it's Herremans locking up Chris Clemons the same way, it's a "good play" if you're a Birds' fan. Depends upon your rooting interests.

Sorry to see Okung get hurt though. Not good for any player or team.

Cole has to be getting used to the holding after all these years. The NFL has wanted more offense (scoring) for many years now, and most of the newer rules have been pointed at that end. ALL Tackles hold to some degree on every play. Cole is so good that he is held on every pass play....sometimes, not often enough though, the Tackle even gets called for it. Here is an oddity though: Jason Peters is SO good, that he gets called for holding sometimes when he ISN'T! Every team with good rushing ends suffer with the same problem, it's not like we are alone.

Was Cole wrong for trying to chuck Okung? Or was Okung being an arse for holding on a meaningless play....Pete there's a # you need to call 1-800-WAH-F'KIN-WAH
