Cheer or Boo McNabb?

Will you cheer or boo Donovan McNabb when he returns to Philly on Sunday?
Cheer
Boo

What kind of welcome will you extend to Donovan McNabb upon his return to Lincoln Financial Field as a Washington Redskin?

Will you give him a standing ovation and cheer?

Will you simply applaud the former Eagles quarterback for his 11 years of service?

Or will you jump up and boo the guy?

Or will you just sit on your hands?

Coach Andy Reid said that he had no idea what kind of reception McNabb will get Sunday when the Eagles host the Redskins.

"Listen, I don't know," Reid said Monday at his day-after-game news conference at the NovaCare Complex. "I don't know that. ... He is a Redskin and they don't get the best acceptance at the stadium there."

Someone asked if Reid would get emotional in seeing McNabb in a Redskins jersey at the Linc. (Note to out-of-town questioner: Reid doesn't do emotion).

"There is not time for that," Reid said. "I have a lot of things I need to take care of."

Reid may not be aware of the stadium atmosphere on game days, but he expects the Linc to be raucous.

"It will be a little crazy," Reid said. "It's always crazy when the NFC East teams come here, so I'm sure it will be a little crazier than ever. ... But I got the headset on, I'm focused on the game. But I know the louder the better, I do know that. That's why I welcome people. Our fans are a little crazy. We're probably on the A-list in the National Football League. I love that part of that. When they put all that green stuff on and dress crazy. I like that. I welcome the Redskins into that."

As for injuries, Reid said that guard Nick Cole still has swelling in his knee and will sit out Wednesday's practice. Reggie Wells, who jumped in for Cole Sunday, will practice with the first team and continue to get repetitions there as the week goes on, Reid said.

Also, tight end Brent Celek has a wrist contusion and defensive end Brandon Graham sprained his ankle. Both injuries aren't considered serious.

The reception for McNabb should be like it was for Iverson when he first returned with the Nuggets: huge emotional standing ovation when he was introduced but roaring boos every time he touched the ball!

I am going to start booing from the moment I get up, all through the tailgate, on my walk into the stadium, and for most of the game. He is a loser, will always be a loser, and I want nothing but bad things to happen to him on the football field. Off the field, he was always a nice guy to me. On the field. L-O-S-E-R!!!!!!

EaglesBleedMoney - Cheers to you. Same thought in my head.

If I were at the game, which I sadly am not going to be, I would applaud for his time and effort that he put into our team. Even as Eagles fans, we understand the demanding nature of our city, and the pressure that McNabb had to face through the years.

Boo him for being a Redskin. But not for his time in here, whether or not we won a Super Bowl, he made our franchise one of the best sports franchises in the past decade or so, probably in the top 5 of all sports franchises in the last decade.

He doesn't deserve a traditional Philly booing, but deserves respect at any moment that he doesn't have the ball in his hands. If he does have the ball, boo all you want, but give him some leniency.

why would we not cheer, all he did was win here, how many times did he talk junk about philly, when all we did was beat down a winner, ya tell me what Dmac did but win, i bet all of you that, neither vick, nor kolb, could have won with the teams that Dmac had to play with, we had JJ, and we had Dmac, if you are going to get mad at the QB position then we all ,all, need to blame every single QB, and coach, thats ever being part of this thing, this love, we call the eagles, i for one hope, pray, we win well, four are five, six are seven, well you get the picture, and i am grateful toDmac #5 for doing his best ,yeah i for one can still cheer for him

He deserves to be cheered. He didn't win but he got closer to winning a super bowl than any other QB to wear an Eagle's uniform. If we cheer the national media will not rip the fans for once.

I say show the national media that we are smart enough to respect people who have played well for us in the past: applaud McNabb. Once the game starts, applaud even louder when McNabb gets hammered, throws a spiral into the dirt, smiles to the camera on his mistakes, or plays the air guitar.

if you boo mcnabb, you're an idiot plain and simple. He was the best QB this franchise ever had and kept us more than competitive for the better part of 11 years. He was always respectful towards fans and media (which is more than we deserved at times) and never got arrested. He's not a hall of famer and unfortunately never won a SB but he was among the best we ever had on this team. Maybe when we miss the playoffs for the next couple years people will recognize mcnabb's contribution to the team
    eh whats the use

Definitely cheer the guy...what on earth did he do to not earn a standing O at the beginning at least? Anyone who boos him really needs to get a life. The guy played his heart out for a decade, took us regularly to the playoffs, and was an excellent citizen in a really tough city. I can not imagine what kind of idiot would boo that. Give him his due props at the beginning, do what we do normally during the game, and then give him his props on the way out. That is what normal people would do -- I just don't understand anyone who doesn't give him at least polite applause at the beginning. Would make no sense.

If i'm in the stands and some moron starts booing McNabb, i'm going to probably yell at the guy to shut up. I'm a McNabb fan, and was happy for everything he tried to do here, it is too bad the Eagles took so long to get him quality WRs.

He's a class citizen, a great father/family man, and never once been in any kind of trouble, and I mean real trouble and not trouble on the field. He represented Philly in a classy manner and took all of the fan's shortcomings in stride. Give the man a standing O during the announcements, and if he throws a td, boo.

Why boo him? That would be just plain stupidity. Don't you know though that 1% could boo him and that's what the story will be that Eagles fans are ignorant fans. National media just loves to go with that tired storyline. So even if you have a tendency to boo don't give the National morons the satisfaction, make them write a different story then the one they already have in place. Besides he doesn't deserve to be booed when he comes on the field.

I will give him a standing O at the intro but after that he is a redskin now. I am still a EAGLES FAN! One more thing if you boo Mcnabb you are not a true eagles fan in my eyes. Why boo him? It wasn't his decision to leave. He gave Philly wins and half the teams in the league wish they had a QB like him. We cheered Pat Burell and Iverson, etc. We'll cheer McNabb - and then cheer all the louder when Vick dissects his team.

Fortunately the contingent of low-IQ losers that Philly fans a soiled reputation is a small, albeit obnoxious, minority. But even they should be on their feet to show their appreciation for what Donovan McNabb did for this franchise and our city. He is only the team's greatest QB in the modern era and the centerpiece of the most successful ten-year run in franchise history. His stats and achievements, and contribution to our community, are irrefutable. Even better than Elway's first ten years. Look it up! He gave us more reason to root for the Eagles than ever before and should be enshrined in this town, not ridiculed for his few short-comings. DMac, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's be clear: I have been one of the biggest McNabb fans ever. After Brian Dawkins, McNabb's Jersey was the first Jersey I bought... and I am NOT a huge collector of Jerseys. McNabb does deserve to be cheered for his time here, and when he retires, as a Philadelphia Eagle, he should absolutely be cheered. However, any time a player shows up as a starter for an opposing team, he should be booed. Let's also face facts: McNabb is a little thin-skinned; get in his head early and make it harder for he and the Redskins to win the game (and maybe a little easier for the Eagles). I do NOT blame McNabb for all of the times the Eagles fell short in the post-season. Early in his career, he did not have the weapons. Much of the time, including Super Bowl XXXIX, the vaunted Eagles defense also came up a bit short. I absolutely believe that he was the best QB the Eagles have had (so far) in the Super Bowl era. He has my respect for making the Eagles not just watchable, but enjoyable for most of the time he was here. Once again: I will gladly show him this respect any time he's not playing my Eagles... and especially if he retires as a Philadelphia Eagle. Come Sunday, please join me in showing Donovan McNabb what we really think of those P.O.S. Deadskins! BOOOOO! Thank you.

Not a big fan of McNabb in general, but in aggregate we saw enough wins and playoff appearances that some applause is due. To those who are 100% ready to boo, think about the high points of his tenure. You cheered at one time, and despite his recent antics, he did bring us some good wins.

I would boo him wearing an Eagles Jersey so it doesn't matter to me. Never thought he was a top five quarter back ever so doesn't matter to me. But then again the greatest thing about sports in Philly is Hockey in May and Baseball in October. Those seasons flow nicely into one another that the other pro sport doesn't matter.

It should be fun to watch. The d-line is fierce right now, playing with fire, and they must be licking their chops, particularly with McNabb playing behind that offensive line. D-ends must love the thought of going up against rookie tackles.

McNabb was supported for 11 years and never won the big game. In the end, his overt sensitivty to criticism and failure to accept responsibility for his team's failings is what created the big disconnect. He deserves every boo he hears.

Because he was a bit goofy? or because he didn't win a championship? At least he didn't beat his wife or kill dogs for his hobbies. Oh right he played air guitar on national TV. Let's hate him for that.

I would stand and clap in appreciation for what he did here. At the same time, I was sick of him blaming everyone but himself and thought it was time to move on. Perfect example was the tie in Cinny. What he said after the game was, "I didn't understand the overtime rule." What he failed to say was, "we only scored 6 points against a bad team in 5 quarters and as the QB, that is unacceptable." If he did speak like this, the city would have embraced him.

stand up and applaud him for 11 seconds (one second per season served w/in Philly)...no boos during the applause please...then boos should be constant after that unless the Eagles are up by 28 or more points in the second half.

you have to cheer him! I wanted him gone as much as the next guy but you have to thank him for 11 years of pretty good football. Certainly way better than we saw around here for a long time.

If the fans boo, we live up to the horrible reputation we already have....and fans like me, who wouldn't boo him get dragged down with THOSE fans. What did he do to deserve it? He got traded through no choice of his own - he didn't demand a trade, leave for more money, nothing. So if you boo him, I honestly think the fan base as a whole looks unintelligent, ungrateful and classless. I already think the fan base looks bad for endorsing what Andy did to Kolb since anybody with a brain knows you can't judge a QB on 10 passes. Nevermind Michael Vick - how do you cheer that classless dirtbag and boo McNabb? Vick won't get us to the SB either.....count on it. And don't say you cheer him becasue he's wearing the right colors, and boo McNabb becasue he's not becasue that argument doesn't hold water with anyone that has an ounce of sense. Believe it or not, not everything is about the Philadelphia Eagles. I have been a die-hard Eagles fan my whole life, but the way much of this fan base has behaved lately, I won't admit it to many people.

#5 should be cheered as loud as possible at intro's, but as has been stated numerous times, it is as big a compliment to boo an opposing player, when he is in action ... with #5 though, it will more likely be derisive cheers when he throws an incompletion.

DMC deserves applause. He did a lot for the us for a long time. I hope he does well in a loss!

i'm going to the game and will definitely give him a standing ovation out of respect when he is announced during the player introductions, especially if he does his signature double chest pump and point to the sky. but once the game starts, i'll boo him if he throws a TD and cheer him if he throws an INT.

If McNabb haters cared about winning then why did they want Garcia over McNabb who lost in the second round of the playoffs? They didn't care about winning, they just didn't like him.

Standing ovation. Donovan played hard for us, broke his ankle and played on it, blew out his knee. I will cheer loudly, and I wish him much success- after this game is over. Go Eagles!

Standing with polite applause. Of course I'm going to look a little odd doing that in my living room... Moving on, why would anyone boo, because he only got us to one Super Bowl and 4 other championship games? Oh the horror! OFF WITH HIS HEAD! Anyone who can boo a guy who threw 4 TDs on a broken ankle has no class.

Recap: McNabb didn't ask to be traded. He wanted to be an Eagle for life but the Eagles organization decided to trade him to the Redskins. Cheer him! Show him the respect he deserves. We Redskins are very grateful!

McNabb was the best QB this team has ever had. I still cheer for him but boo the Redskins. He gave us the best 10 year run for this franchise. God bless you Donovan.

He's the enemy. You never cheer for the enemy. I might not boo, but I won't cheer either. I propose everyone just sit there and be quiet after he's introduced. Don't say or do a darned thing.
This will forever be my final comment on Saint Donnie, he's just not worth the effort anymore. Was he good, yes. Was he great, no. Could he win games, yes. Did he lose all but but one big game, yes. He was at the same time a superstar and a super underachiever. His flaws were many, namely trying not to perpetuate the running steroetype of the black quarterback. He failed miserably as a leader when lesser QBs succeeded at galvanizing their teammates and winning, too. He was a fake, so humble yet so full of himself. Always the second best in show, never a best of show blue ribbon winner. The Bobby Abreau of QBs....all stats and no championships.....great QBs rise to the occasion, make all those around them better and lead their teams to championships......oh yeah, they also know how to count to 120 as in seconds in a two minute drill......no wonder his Wonderlic score was so low......I am not oppressed.....Saint Donnie and his camp will tell you he is the one who is oppressed. Me, I think he's just a chronic wormkiller.

McNabb deserves a standing O during the entire first series he's on the field. That would be something to remember and be talked about for the ages. A classy welcome back. Are you up to it, Philly? The guy threw 4 TDs on a broken ankle once upon a time. He pretty much carried the entire offense and deserves to be treated with the class and respect that he displayed through his run here. All you haters and boo birds would wet your pants if you stood in a pro football pocket.

He deserves an applause and he'd get it from me if I were going. I understand that he constantly put his foot in his mouth (and continues do to so in DC) and never got over the top, but he was the best QB in team history and won a lot of games here. I'm sure there will be a mix of both boos and cheers, but I hope the majority goes for the latter.

Give him a brief ovation, then cheer ten times as loud for the Birds to beat the Hell out the Skins.

I'm happy to see all of the "Cheer" McNabb comments. Just because he wasn't able to get us a Superbowl doesn't mean he should be booed. He made the Eagles a contender instead of a doormatt.

Please cheer!! Agree with Philly Mike that the media will say we booed no matter what, but PLEASE don't play into their hands. The media has been and will be feeding the fire all week, and the game being at 4:00 is no coincidence. They want dirty laundry. Let's disappoint them.

From what I've read, and from the survey, I'm happy that the reaction to McNabb has been positive. As a fan (still) I hope he gets a huge, warm ovation.

No reason not to cheer #5. I wish I was going to be at the game too, because anyone who booed in my vacinity would get stolen. That man gave his heart to this team and the city, even when it did not show love back. Like a previous poster said he has gotten closer to the big game then every other eagles QB in history and has beaten all of their stats. Let's show some respect and cheer #5, then beat the Redskins!!! GO BIRDS!!!
