MCCOY VISITING EAGLES

POSTED: Tuesday, March 31, 2009, 3:26 PM

A league source said today that Pitt running back LeSean McCoy will make a pre-draft visit with the Eagles.

McCoy, a star at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, ran for 2,816 yards and 35 touchdowns in just two seasons with the Panthers. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound running back also proved to be a strong receiver coming out of the backfield with 65 career receptions for 549 yards.

Another league source said Chris "Beanie" Wells, the star running back from Ohio State, does not have a pre-draft visit scheduled in Philadelphia. The source said the Eagles did interview Wells at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. Wells finished his three-year career at Ohio State with 585 carries for 3,382 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Pre-draft visits do not always mean the Eagles intend to draft a player. There have been times when the Eagles have drafted a player in the first round even though that player did not visit the NovaCare Complex beforehand.

COLE SIGNS TENDER. Offensive lineman Nick Cole has signed the “mid-level” contract the team tendered him, ending his designation as a restricted free agent. Cole’s one-year deal will pay him $1.545 million in 2009.

Cole, who signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2006 out of New Mexico State, received his first extended playing time as a starter last season. After Shawn Andrews and Max Jean-Gilles suffered season-ending injuries, Cole stepped in and started the final four regular-season games and all three of the Eagles’ playoff games at right guard.

With the possibility that either Shawn Andrews or Todd Herremans could be moving to left tackle, Cole could end up competing with Jean-Gilles as a starting guard. Cole also has the ability to play center. In fact, Eagles coach Andy Reid said at the NFL owners meetings last week that Cole will provide competition for Jamaal Jackson at center.

As a restricted free agent, Cole could have signed an offer sheet with another team and the Eagles would have had the option to either match that offer or receive a second-round draft pick as compensation. Now, he’s a member of the Eagles who will likely compete for a starting job.

Bake McBride and davekrieg- look at the square mileage of Phoenix (517) and San Antonio (412) and compare that to Philly's (135). No wonder those cities have a greater population than Philly. Philly is way bigger when you add in the entire metro area.

davekrieg, math apparently isn't your strong suit. The Bills have been in 100% more Super Bowls than the birds, not 50% more. Nice try though. Philly fans are such a joke. Look around the league and you'll see the Eagles clearly have one of the best organizations around. Half the league has never won a Super Bowl, so stop throwing that lame bs around. The fact is over the past ten years the Eagles have given me a team to root for deep into January. Would you d-bags who constantly bash the organization prefer to return to the glory days of Kotite or Rhodes? What a bunch of morons.

Westbrook isn't necessarily soft, but you have to wonder if he had as many carries (not receptions) as fans wanted the Eagles to run the ball, how many less years Westbrook would have played. Westbrook is a phenominal football player, but he's not a good running back. In the open field, he's dangerous, without blocking, he can't run the ball. His breakout year was when we got Richie to block for him. Once Richie got hurt, Westbrook's running production dropped like a rock. With Weaver, we'll see what Westbrook can do. I really believe that, along with Reid being stubborn, one of the main reasons why he doesn't run the ball much is because Westbrook isn't a good runner or will get hurt.

5isaking, is your real name donovan? 5 is a loser, who would not be anything without B Westbrook, the best weapon on the team. First off, since you believe you are so smart, you'd know that Westbrook isn't a power runner. His job isn't to get that one yard. That's why the Birds were supposed to use Buck or go with a qb sneak. Remember how tough 5 wasn't when Reid wouldn't let him sneak for a yard against the Bears. Said he might hurt his ribs. Explain to me how a qb, with his head down going into a hole, is going to hurt his ribs. Wuss!

I def don't like McCoy Love Moreno HATE wells(prob still a bit jaded from clarett) like brown but not sure he is the style that fits what they do at rb. yeah he can catch but a bit north and south for a team that throws as much as they do. good compliment to westbrook but he is 30 and you want a replacement at this point not a compliment

Davekrieg I agree with you for the most part: they falter into playoff spots only to get beaten by clearly better teams and then the Fat Man tells us "we are happy with what we have." So, by the factual definition of the last six years (minus the T.O. year), "what we have" is a talented team without key individuals who make talented teams GREAT TEAMS...i.e. forgetting the draft, trading picks and solidifyig a run for the Bowl by landing a PLAY MAKER like Owens was. What McNabb haters, Reid haters, even Reid apologists fail to recognize is that play making receivers, with a guy like Westbrook and a second year guy like Jackson with complimentary talent like Curtis and Celek, open the field for them. Owens made every single other offensive target MORE of a weapon and LESS of "just a decent player." With a guy like that (i.e. BOLDIN) there will not be "22 eyes" on ANYONE!!!! Because having 22 eyes on one key player will no longer be an issue, unless, of course, the opposing d-coordinator is an absolute moron.

"Shady" is a great back and fits the West Coast system with his receiving ability and experience in Matt Cavanough's system (although a more run oriented systen at Pitt). He has the ability to get away from defenders with some great moves (almost like a Barry Sanders). On the downside, he fumbles too much and needs to protect the ball better and just seems like a young kid. He should be there for the 28th pick in the 1st round. I like his upside.

Uh oh....here we go. The "haters" have come home to roost again. WESTBROOK has NEVER been soft! If it wasn't for him keeping this team afloat, McWhiner would get booed every time out! I admit that the Eagles have to start looking at RBs who are if not taller than 5'11 are at least bigger than 210+ lbs. We need another DUUUUUUCE at RB to either compliment WESTBROOK or to spell him. Hopefully this Leonard Weaver pans out and is what we need in the backfield with WESTBROOK! It all remains to be seen. Hopefully the Eagles will package their draft picks and gets Tony Gonzalez for 1 year. I hope for a SuperBowl but we all know how that'll turn out.........

5isaking = calabrese = Dmacrules = I guy who is sometimes right but, should shut up about Westbrook. No one who has rehabbed back from an ACL replacement is soft. I know that you mean he's not a power back - so why don't you just say that? You can point out the weakness in his game without bashing him.
