Babin defends tweets questioning fan loyalty; said he heard "vile" chants at the Linc

POSTED: Thursday, November 1, 2012, 2:31 PM

Jason Babin defended a series of tweets he posted on Tuesday that questioned the loyalty of some Eagles fans.

The Eagles defensive end said that he was reacting to chants about Andy Reid and other Eagles that were coming from some fans at Lincoln Financial Field during Sunday’s 30-17 loss to the Falcons.

“Some of the most vile things I’ve ever heard,” Babin called the chants. “Talking about people’s wives and kids and chanting them. I just thought there’s no place for that in the NFL.”

Babin, one of the more outspoken players in the Eagles locker, took to Twitter on Tuesday, he said, to defend Reid, defensive line coach Jim Washburn and his teammates. He posted the following over two tweets:

“LOYALTY: loy·al·ty: noun, plural loy·al·ties: The state or quality of being loyal; faithfulness to commitments or obligations ... There are 17 teams with the same record or worse than us. Thanks for being loyal fans.......We’ll get it right.”

The Eagles are 3-4 and head to New Orleans for Monday night’s game against the Saints. Fan frustration continues to climb with each loss. Apathy is also starting to set in. The Linc was more than half empty at the start of the fourth quarter with the Eagles trailing, 27-10.

Babin, who leads the team with 2-1/2 sacks, said that’s around when he started to hear the chants that he said were coming from a section near the Eagles' side of the field.

“It was upsetting that a few bad apples were chanting that kind of stuff,” Babin said, adding: “I don’t even want to repeat what I heard, it was that bad. And I’ve got a pretty high threshold for adult jokes.”

Eagles fans aren't disloyal to the Eagles. They're disloyal to guys who leave more effort in the chairs of tattoo parlors than they do on the field of play. But seriously, that Babin isn't getting sacks isn't Babin's fault. Tackles have adjusted to Babin's predictable wide-9 rush route by quickly dropping two steps vertically backwards allowing Babin to get back. This allows the tackle to redirect Babin's energy way wide of the QB and give's Babin no effective leverage towards the QB. It is through this that Babin fails to make contact with the QB or even create any sort of hurry or visual pressure or hands up in the passing lane. The league is proving that the Wide 9 is easy to beat if you drill your tackles on a couple of techniques the week before. If Babin used some variety of moves or rush lanes then maybe fans wouldn't call Babin names.

Whoah, whoah, whoah. Let's take a step back. Where did Babin actually question the loyalty of the fans on Twitter? He gave a definition of loyalty, pointed out there are 17 teams with the same or worse record and then thanked the fans for being loyal. That's all he tweeted and McLane is trying to spin THAT into some attack on the fans? McLane has to go....I can't even call him a "hack"...that would an insult to hacks everywhere.

My wife and I were at the game on Sunday. We were excited to be there and root the Eagles to a much needed win. After the terrible loss to Detroit and the week off because of the bye, we were really looking forward to a great game. We were disappointed to see the performance put forth by the Eagles. We stayed for the whole game, and it was like alot of games lately. The Eagles get down early and can't do enough to get back in the game. I have been going to games for 15 years and my closet is full of Eagles Jerseys, jackets, hats, etc. I consider myself a loyal fan, but watching the Eagles the last couple of years has been disappointing, frustrating, and expensive. I think if the players cared about the colors as much as I do they would play better.
After a loss, all you hear is how Andy is responsible and he needs to do a better job putting the players in a better position to make plays. Before the games, fans are ready to cheer, clap, scream, and whatever they can to help the Eagles win! Then we watch a team that looks like they either can't make plays, or are just going thru the motions. The fans are hungry for a winner! 3-4 record is misleading, They have not played anywhere close to their talents/abilities. That is not the fans fault is it?

"Babin, who leads the team with 2-1/2 sacks" I understand that there is a new website, and mistakes are prone to happen. But I don't understand using stats from Week 3 of the NFL season. The Eagles have played 7 games. You should know that the sack leader of the team would have more that 2 and half sacks. It's just obvious. Like that typo that keeps getting repeated about Vick having 13 turnovers in 7 games.

Everybody angry at AR, when you can win 100+ NFL games, go to NFC championships and a SB....maybe then your disrespectful comments may be worth writing. I've been a fan for 48 years, so i am frustrated more than most of you. So unless you have no one in your family who has failed, or is over weight show some class. Who in their right mind would want to play or coach here.

Some advice to Mr. Babin; start playing and stop talking. All you have done since hitting town is run your mouth! Time to man up and play some, don't you agree???????????

So 4 days before a huge game & Babin is still whining about getting his feelings hurt? Loser....a complete loser. Go shave your armpits for your sack pose.....I guess we'll see that around week 15 when the Eagles are out of the playoff race.

The idea that you are supposed to be "loyal" to a team is silly stuff. You are loyal to your college team, your high school team not the mercenary team. Pro athletes need to perform or there is not a single reason why a bunch of adults should go to the games. An adult watches other adults play sports so they can see great drama and amazing athletic feats that stretch the capacity of a human body. If a team six then you h=get to see neither so why would you be at the game at all?

Instead of worrying about the chants from the crowd, how about getting to the QB, or setting the edge, or tackling a RB. you know something to earn that paycheck your stealing every week.

Another thing, is it coincidence that after those vials of "unknown substance" fell into the polices hands that the whole D line has become a bunch of bums?? just wondering...

Hey Babin...take your sissy a## back somewhere...The only guy that shows heart on the entire team is Shady....maybe you should spend more time with him. Do you expect Eagles fans to support you as you embarrass the city??? You are now my #1 most disliked Eagle...You just don't get it dude...

So Babin gets the brunt of the ugly Philly fan. Welcome to reality in Philly when our Football team shows us no heart or smarts from the top to the bottom. This is how were are when our "team" (and I use that term lightly) plays. It's not that your losing but IT'S how your losing. I long for the day when we had Don that could read a defense and throw a screen pass or an offensive line that could block. Or a defense that could get off the field on 3rd down and got pissed when they didn't. What amazes me the most is all the ink this team got before the season from the National Media and football heads. I just want this team to show some heart and play like it means something to them than just a paycheck.

Babin should STFU he is one of the biggest reasons the fans are booing. That being said, any reference to Andy's son are out of line, way out of line
