Babin defends tweets questioning fan loyalty; said he heard "vile" chants at the Linc
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Jason Babin defended a series of tweets he posted on Tuesday that questioned the loyalty of some Eagles fans.
The Eagles defensive end said that he was reacting to chants about Andy Reid and other Eagles that were coming from some fans at Lincoln Financial Field during Sunday’s 30-17 loss to the Falcons.
“Some of the most vile things I’ve ever heard,” Babin called the chants. “Talking about people’s wives and kids and chanting them. I just thought there’s no place for that in the NFL.”
Babin, one of the more outspoken players in the Eagles locker, took to Twitter on Tuesday, he said, to defend Reid, defensive line coach Jim Washburn and his teammates. He posted the following over two tweets:
“LOYALTY: loy·al·ty: noun, plural loy·al·ties: The state or quality of being loyal; faithfulness to commitments or obligations ... There are 17 teams with the same record or worse than us. Thanks for being loyal fans.......We’ll get it right.”
The Eagles are 3-4 and head to New Orleans for Monday night’s game against the Saints. Fan frustration continues to climb with each loss. Apathy is also starting to set in. The Linc was more than half empty at the start of the fourth quarter with the Eagles trailing, 27-10.
Babin, who leads the team with 2-1/2 sacks, said that’s around when he started to hear the chants that he said were coming from a section near the Eagles' side of the field.
“It was upsetting that a few bad apples were chanting that kind of stuff,” Babin said, adding: “I don’t even want to repeat what I heard, it was that bad. And I’ve got a pretty high threshold for adult jokes.”
perhaps tackle someone and show some pride!
Pride,, you know! :noun, verb, prid•ed, prid•ing.
noun 1. a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.
2.the state or feeling of being proud.
14 years of- The leader of the all-talk, all-hype team speaks. For two years running, this has been the most unlikeable Eagles team the Tonner can remember. Please Jeffy, pull the plug on this mess and start over. Keep Shady and cut everyone else loose. Please, the Tonner is begging and the Tonner never begs.
I have been an Eagle fan for all of my 34 years and I have stuck with this team through some really bad times. Really bad times.
So.. Babin shut up and go away. We will all still be here, loyal to our team long after you are gone. We aren't disloyal to the Eagle green. We just don't like some of the idiots wearing it. flyersj1978
Big, huge, tattooed, baby! Play football and quit whining. You're not supposed to bother with anything bozo's chant from the stands anyway. Play the game! jbandit2116- I've seen some of the most vile play on the field that I've ever seen, too, Babin. What's your point?
nothing to see here..don't waste your time. Shemp Howard
Babin is right. We have some of the most unloyal fans in America and it's disgusting. No wonder we have the rep that we have as fans. Sorry fans in the league and I'm an Eagles fan. elijah29
I have never felt loyalty toward that tub of fecal matter Andy Reid so why should i start now! Everyone else judges these losers on win-loss recods.. I judge them on how they treat and respect (or disrespect) me as a fan... And i am sick of the condescention.. the cliched ' i need to do a better job' crud responses.. And as bad a coach as Reid is, he is responsible for the death of hs drug addictedson, and Nobody in media calls him out on it!! So bleep Babin, you tattooed white monkey and double-bleep Andy Reid! When they finally sacked Ryan, they celebrated as if the won the SB. Losers. Justaschmuck
Yea show some pride, passion, fire, and desire and loyalty to the guys lining up beside you on the field. Lead by example and we fans will follow. I think paying 250 a seat to see you get spanked week in and week out is more loyalty than you're showing us right now. Stop your whining and let your play on the field speak for you. Man up! There are some Eagles' fans who are the worst in the league. No question about that. No controversy here. armchairGM
Hey Babin- You're late. Everyone questions the Eagles fans' loyalty. They expect you to win (which is understandable). If you perform below their expectations, you get booed (which in certain cases in understandable). If you make a mistake, there is a good chance you'll become the scapegoat (unacceptable). If you don't live up to ridiculous expectations that these "fans" put on you year in and year out, you get booed and destroyed by the media and the "fans" (speaks to the lack of class most Eagles fans have). Bottom line is, even if you make it the playoffs, play your tail off, take responsibility during tough times, and help your community, you will booed if you don't win every game by 40 and win Super Bowls in November. Philadelphia fans for the most part are whiny, selfish "tough" guys. Real fans ride or die with their teams. Sure they vent frustration (but before we even talk about frustration, let's get this straight: there are at least 10 team's fanbases that know what REAL frustration feels like and the Eagles fanbase isn't of them), but they also cheer on their team through the rough times with the hope that the players gain momentum from the loud stadium. Stop making stupid statements like "we pay to see them play so we have every right to boo". You're right, you have every right to boo. You also have every right to not renew your season tickets, to not get hammered in the parking lot before games and then proceed to embarrass yourself in the stadium, and to not harrass the visiting team's fans while you sit with a group of your degenerate friends. jevans- "There are at least 10 team's fanbases that know what REAL frustration feels like and the Eagles fanbase isn't one of them." Are you serious? We haven't won a championship since 1960. We have NEVER won a superbowl. Maybe I missed something, and granted I haven't looked at a dictionary in a month or so but... what exactly is your definition of REAL frustration? You sir MUST be a Cowgirls' fan or something worse...
duboy - That's bs. During the San Diego vs Chiefs game, the Charger fans were booing the Chargers at the half as they left the field and the Chargers were WINNING at that point. essell
I don't know why you expect Reid to respect you. You know nothing about football compared to him. He has the a winning resume in the highest level of competitive football. It doesn't matter what Andy's response is, you will be critical of it regardless. So it is not condenscenting or crud, it is just your opinion. penncrow19
