Jason Babin claimed by Jaguars
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Jason Babin was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars, an NFL source said.
Babin, who was released by the Eagles on Tuesday, was claimed by two other teams -- Washington and Buffalo -- but 2-9 Jacksonville had first dibs after the 1-10 Chiefs passed on the defensive end.
Babin has only 5-1/2 sacks this season, down from last season's total of 18. But his 36 sacks over the last three seasons are third most in the NFL. He was likely hoping to pass through waivers, become a free agent, and therefore be able to pick his own team.
But Babin will have to finish the season with a team worse off -- in terms of wins -- than the Eagles.
The Eagles didn't have to worry about another team claiming Babin off waivers and thus pay the remainder of his $5.6 million salary because he had already claimed termination pay while with another team.
Hahahahaha enjoy your "contender" you no talent loser. You were let go twice by the Eagles. Dan in Holmesburg- So he's there to help the Jags get the top pick in the draft??? paulNC
"he had already claimed termination pay while with another team" Not really sure what termination pay is. TomH1

Termination Pay Provides a Partial Salary Guarantee
The Termination Pay benefit contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement provides a guarantee of 100% of a player’s “Paragraph 5 salary” for an eligible player who has completed his fourth or more Credited Season in the NFL. A player is eligible for termination pay if he is:
1. Released after his club’s first regular season game in September, and
2. He was on the club’s Active/Inactive List on or after the club’s first regular season game.
If a player is thereafter released during the regular season, the club must pay the unpaid balance of the player’s “Paragraph 5 salary.” A player is only entitled to termination pay once during his playing career in the NFL.
Under the CBA, a club can be excused from paying termination pay to an otherwise eligible player if it can show to a neutral arbitrator that, after receipt of a written warning, the player failed to exhibit the level of good faith effort which was expected from players on that club.
A player qualifying for this benefit must claim termination pay no sooner than one day after the end of the regular season and no later than February 1. The NFLPA suggests that a player claim this benefit by notifying the club responsible for payment in writing by certified mail or Federal CoettaGarner25- I bet he gets 20 sacks in the next 3 games.
Obviously, there is a God. waltv
I was terrified that d bag would end up on a Super Bowl contender this year. I am so relieved he ended up on a team worse than the Eagles. Babin brought shame to the great number 93 worn by Jevon Kearse. AreaMan

I wonder how many more of the current Eagles we can pawn off on the Jags??? We have a lot of other sub-par performers to offer! oneway- This is what is called "poetic justice". Hope he enjoys Jacksonville. Servo
Goodbye Babs! HIRE JAWS FIRST is a facebook page where you can show support for the hiring of Jaws as VP of Football Operations with full hiring power over coaching and personnel. If you support the notion of having Jaws rebuild this disaster from the top down please visit and like the page. Thanks! bentlip
I doubt the Birds could beat the Jags right now. Lockyer
Jags must be going after that top pick... They were bad, but Babin seals the deal. mike
