Jason Babin claimed by Jaguars

POSTED: Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 4:34 PM

Jason Babin was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars, an NFL source said.

Babin, who was released by the Eagles on Tuesday, was claimed by two other teams -- Washington and Buffalo -- but 2-9 Jacksonville had first dibs after the 1-10 Chiefs passed on the defensive end.

Babin has only 5-1/2 sacks this season, down from last season's total of 18. But his 36 sacks over the last three seasons are third most in the NFL. He was likely hoping to pass through waivers, become a free agent, and therefore be able to pick his own team.

But Babin will have to finish the season with a team worse off -- in terms of wins -- than the Eagles.

The Eagles didn't have to worry about another team claiming Babin off waivers and thus pay the remainder of his $5.6 million salary because he had already claimed termination pay while with another team.

He won...he could be playing for a cr@ppy team in the cold, now he is playing for an equally cr@ppy team in relative warmth.

The person, who spoke to USA TODAY Sports said eight teams put in claims for Babin, including the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.PLUS Approximately 10 playoff contenders were ready to make a run at Babin had he cleared waivers...........

Jason still has a few years left.

WHO CARES HOW MANY SACKS HE GETS IN JAX? I DON'T!! ALL I KNOW IS THAT I HATE THE WIDE 9 AND THEREFORE BABIN AND WASHBURN NEED TO GO! And take Mudd, April, Marty & Bowles! Maybe we can trade them all for either LB Posluszny, SS Landry or CB Mathis. Any of the 3 are an improvement!

The only reason somebody would the the Jags are worse than the Eagles is because the haven't playesd the Eagles. Its been said many times before, we are 1 drop interception, 1 questionable pass interference call, and 1 miss field goal from being 0-11. That is really what the Eagles are in my opinon 0-11. none of their "wins" were convincing.

Babin is the lucky one, you dumb eagles fans. The longer they stay the less they will be worth to other teams. They will all be gone by next year I hope.

I don't get the hate. At the end of the Panthers game, I watched Babin running full out to chase Newton down. He didn't get him, but, he certainly gave an effort which is more than I can say about the rest of the defense, i.e. Asomghua, DRC, Coleman, and any linebacker not named Ryans. Fact is, Babin had success here and at Tennessee so why not keep him and let the next coach decide if he stays or goes? How can Andy say it's his fault and turn around and let Babin go? Shouldn't he fire himself if he can't put Babin in the right position??? Besides, why do you care about sending a message to this team? Go 8-8 and still get fired by Laurie? If this is based on performance, then let Cole go and his 1.5 sacks. Of course, my argument is moot if it comes to light Babin was a distraction.

Glad to see this guy go. He was only interested in stats. The whole Eagles team quit..Why else would every star player be having subpar years? Trent Cole needs to go too..he has not played with any heart at all this year. 2 sacks at this point of the season is horrible. Get rid of all the quitters, that's the only way to turn this thing around
