Jason Babin claimed by Jaguars

POSTED: Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 4:34 PM

Jason Babin was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars, an NFL source said.

Babin, who was released by the Eagles on Tuesday, was claimed by two other teams -- Washington and Buffalo -- but 2-9 Jacksonville had first dibs after the 1-10 Chiefs passed on the defensive end.

Babin has only 5-1/2 sacks this season, down from last season's total of 18. But his 36 sacks over the last three seasons are third most in the NFL. He was likely hoping to pass through waivers, become a free agent, and therefore be able to pick his own team.

But Babin will have to finish the season with a team worse off -- in terms of wins -- than the Eagles.

The Eagles didn't have to worry about another team claiming Babin off waivers and thus pay the remainder of his $5.6 million salary because he had already claimed termination pay while with another team.
