According to an ESPN report, the Arizona Cardinals have reduced their asking price for wide receiver Anquan Boldin, but a league source I talked to a short while ago described that story as "BS."

The report also said the Eagles, New York Giants and New York Jets were all interested in Boldin. An Eagles source told me that the team is not close to making a trade at the moment even though the team has fielded a lot of phone calls today.

The Cardinals have also now denied that Boldin is available for a second-round pick, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Somers said he had also talked to a reporter who covers the Giants and that the New York front-office people were denying that they were in serious discussions for Boldin. Somers said the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans were among the teams that have shown interest in Boldin.

It appears as if the Cardinals continue to ask for a first-round pick that they will not be able to trade Boldin.

Why can't all these beat writers just wait until they know what's going on before they post this nonsense? This just in: Shawn Andrews is on the block. This just in: No, he's not. This just in: Boldin can be had for a 2nd round pick. This just in: No, he can't. Please. You want to know why newspapers are going out of business? It's because they have to pay you for this garbage.

Actually, this here is an example of a beat writer doing his homework, it is ESPN.com that dropped the ball on this one. Also, this is a blog - meant to report information as it becomes available, not to report on information that is complete. For complete information, see the full length articles.

A GM would make a fortune if he wrote a book after he left on all the players they almost traded for or drafted -- and why they did or didn't.

Mikell = Dawkins 2
Lies, Lies, Lies. It's all lies right now so why even write about it? Of course the eagles are gonna say that they aren't interested in Boldin and of course the Cardinals are gonna deny that Boldin can be had for a second round pick. I really don't even know why this is news. Write about it when something actually happens.

If the Giants get Braylon Edwards and we don't get Boldin then I don't know if I can root for the Eagles until this front office is gone. They always make moves for players that Andy loves (Peters) and ignore other key positions. We have a team that is 2 or 3 key players away from being great and the front office hypes up the current players enough to make us optimistic that they are, but they always fall just short. Trade a 2nd, 5th and Reggie Brown for Boldin already. If it doesn't work out, what did we really lose? A potential starter 4 years from now (if they're not a bust which there's a good chance they will be), a 5th round pick (we have plenty of them this year) and a receiver who couldn't get on the field last year for a potentially great offense to go with the already very good defense.

The ESPN report was by Sal Paolantonio and he says he's spoken with 2 different sources. I'll take Sal and his sources over any of the local beat writers. The local guys can't ever seem to get any info from the team and always seem to be a day late with everything. When these things leak, people always try to deny it. They don't want to hurt their trade leverage.

why would they lower their asking price if supposedly baltimore was going to give them their first? they can definitely get a first for boldin so it wouldnt make sense for them to now lower it

About Birds' Eye View Blog

Bob Brookover, left, is in his seventh year of covering the Philadelphia Eagles after spending 15 years covering the Philadelphia Phillies for the Inquirer and two other newspapers. The 45-year-old Brookover lives in Delran with his wife Francine and roots for Notre Dame and Michigan State, the two schools attended by his children, Justine and Ryan. When Notre Dame plays Michigan State, he cheers for the school of the child he likes more at that particular moment.

Jeff McLane, right, joined the Eagles beat in April 2009 after two years of covering colleges, namely Penn State football. Before that he covered high school sports for The Inquirer. Before that he worked in the mailroom (not quite). Informed that his father is no longer covering the Lions, McLane's eldest, three-year-old son said, "You mean Simba, Scar and Mufasa, Daddy?" His two-year-old son -- excited about the move to the Eagles -- said, "Go, Deigo, Go!" or something like that. His wife of five-plus years, however, had a different take on the new job. "Another five years is in question," she said. Check out McLane on Twitter and Facebook for instant updates on the Eagles.
