Asante on Deion: "He's a hater"; Herremans responds to "dirty" claims

POSTED: Wednesday, November 24, 2010, 1:09 PM

Asante Samuel leads the NFL with seven interceptions, is having perhaps one of his best seasons, but that apparently isn't enough in the eyes of Deion Sanders.

Asked recently on NFL Network to give his opinion on the Eagles cornerback, Sanders said that Samuel was the best off-cornerback in the game.

Apparently, that wasn't enough of a compliment in Samuel's eyes. Samuel wants to be considered the best corner in the game.

Wednesday morning, Samuel tweeted this: "@DeionSanders is the biggest hater in the world. He ain't no real FL boy he is a fake. FL boys keep it real. Men lie women lie numbers don't."

Asked for a comment on Sanders, Samuel said, "He's a hater. Write that."

Samuel is going to sit out practice today with a knee sprain. His status for Sunday is up in the air. In his absence, Joselio Hanson will take the repetitions at right cornerback in practice.

Samuel picked off Eli Manning twice in Sunday's win and also recovered a fumble. He was fined $40,000, however, for his hit on a defenseless receiver (Derek Hagan) in the game. The fine was originally $50,000, but Eagles coach Andy Reid was able to get $10,000 knocked off with a call to the league office, Samuel said.

Todd Herremans responded to Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty's accusation that the Eagles guard played dirty in Sunday night's game.

"It took me off guard a little bit," Herremans said Wednesday. "Me and Chris have played against each other for a long time. So I would hope that he knows I'm not a dirty player. But he's entitled to his opinion. I've never played the game of football in my entire life with the intent of hurting anybody. My job, first and foremost, is to protect the quarterback and keep unnecessary hits off him."

Herremans was called for two penalties in the game -- nce for tripping and the second time for a cut block. He was fined $5,000 for the latter penalty.

“When you talk about players doing that to one another ... playing hard, playing between the whistles is one thing," Canty told the Newark Star-Ledger. "But that was a dirty play. I think we all can agree on that.”

Canty also said “that kind of behavior, it’s either taught or it’s allowed."

"I don't think too much about that," Herremans said. "I'm trying to focus on the Chicago Bears, unless he gets traded to the Bears this week, I'm not too worried about it."

But the Eagles and Giants do face eachother again in less than month. New York hosts the Eagles at the Meadowlands on Dec. 19.

Should be a good one.

Not sure if what Sanders said was intended as a back-handed complment, or what. Probably so, otherwise, why qualify your comment with "off cornerback". Because, for real, Deion Sanders was the pure definition of "off cornerback". He liked to tackle even LESS than Asante. Just keepin' it real!

Who among us thought that Assante would get fined for a big hit? He's worked on his tackling, and it shows. He's no Dawkins, but he has improved.

i understand the flag, but asante should not have been fined over 10,000 for that hit. even being fined at all is rediculous.

Why would anyone listen to what Sanders says? He and Irvin are the most obnoxious "analysts" on this earth.

I'm offended by the league's system of fines. Imagine you work in a place where you do your job properly but your employer ( Lord and Master in the case of the NFL) decides that you didn't do it exactly to its specifications, and even though there were no negative consequences, takes a large percentage of your salary as punishment.
    It's much worse than a joke, it's a disgrace.

If Sanders meant 'best off' as in 'wealthy' he's probably right. Asante earns his paycheck in my mind. I'm still getting goosebumps from remebering that hit. I think I'll Youtube it right now... Oh and Canty, no "we" don't all agree. Stop whining.

Samuel should learn to grow up and play football. You hit a player hard, you get fined. Learn the rules my loser! You aren't that good as it is! As for Herrremans, him giving the Giants a chop block on a good defense of the Giants will not be tolorated. The Giants have not much class and they know what is right and what is wrong! All I have to say is wait until the game at the Meadowlands my losers. The Giants will beat you in every way. We just about beat you this time.

MRD, how do you define "just about" beating the Eagles? Needing the Eagles to drop two TD passes in the first half to avoid being down at least 21-3 at halftime? Or was it the five turnovers your offense coughed up? No, wait, it must be "we almost had it until our QB dropped a ball untouched." Enjoy your yearly fade.

Asante is the Ohco Cinco of the Eagles. Preening after ever interception. Taking on the world. He doesn't fit the mold of the Eagles but he gets the job done on the field. I still don't like the way he refuses to get physical but you put up with for the times when he makes a big play.

Wow MRD, it must have been tough on your system to see the Giants lose that bad. Let me be the first to donate a bottle of ibuprofen for your monthly cramps.

Let's get this straight Bob1 the Giants lost bad? really? are you smoking crack again? I see the Eagles won by 10 points over a team that turned over the ball 4 times and were missing 3 starting offensive lineman and #2 WR Steve Smith and #4 WR Ramses Barden and the FB Hedgecock who all suffered injuries in the last 3 weeks and you won by 10 points....quite frankly ...you guys suck...you should have blown the Giants out with all that going for you plus you're team was pretty much 100% healthy before the game....you might want to take off those green colored glassses chump, they're affecting your vision
