Andy Reid's endorsement of quarterback Michael Vick as his starting quarterback was just as strong as his Monday endorsement of Juan Castillo as his defensive coordinator. And we all saw that turned out.
Asked if Michael Vick will start against the Falcons, Reid sald: "As I sit here today, he's the starting quarterback."
On Monday, when he was asked if Castillo would still make the defensive playcalls, "that’s the way I’m looking at it as I stand right here.”
Reid said Tuesday that he's "looking at everything," an indication that Vick could still lose his job to Nick Foles. When Reid was told his answer about Vick could make fans believe he's considering a change, Reid understood.
"I'm just telling the truth," Reid said. "That's what I'm saying to you. Right now, Michael Vick is the starting quarterback."
Vick has 13 turnovers this season and has been the one of the main reasons why the Eagles offense is struggling. Reid started the Tuesday news conference announcing Castillo's dismissal by stating that "this one of of the moves." He said he'll continue to look at everything -- players, coaches, offense, defense special teams. The starting quarterback might be next.
"All I can tell you today is what I've got down today," Reid said, "and you can take it however you have to take it."
Reid has no choice. Vick has shown that he cannot fix his turnover problem. He's had the turnover problem his entire career except for 2010. Reid thought he could coach Vick out of it but he can't. There's no hope of making the playoffs with Vick and his turnovers. Benching Vick and trying Foles is the logical move. soulman386- This is the most ridiculous comment on the board in referencing fixing what's wrong with the Eagles. It's an idiot's logic to replace Vick with a less mobile QB and expect success behind this Eagles Offensive Line. Replacing Vick with Foles only sounds reasonable if one believes Foles doesn't have the skills and potential to be much of anything in the NFL.
Other than intentionally trying to ruin Foles career Edwards would be the logical choice to replace Vick this year. It's highly doubtful that any Quarterback in the NFL could absorb the punishment Vick takes Quarterbacking the Eagles. Dexter - Foles throws the ball in 3 seconds or less - that's what this line needs! He did it all through college with a line just as bad and did great with less talent. He also did it in the pre-season against defenses that knocked Vick out of games! Is he the next Payton or Brady? Who knows. Can he be better that Vick? Probably. Can he do worse? I don't know how!
gdibig - Interesting...I have never seen him play in College. What do the Birds have to lose? Reed? I say go for it
phillyceltic - No, a running QB doesn't help when he can not outrun anyone on the defensive side of the ball. Vick is 32 and the wear shows, he is caught from behind all the time. Another quarterback will absolutely get rid of the ball quicker and maybe read a blitz now and then and change the play. Vick does not do that.

I have not seen the players rushing to Vick's defense the last few weeks like they did earlier in the season. DeSean Jackson seems to be the most vocal saying Vick knows he can't turn the ball over and is working on getting it fixed. He used to say more about Vick's greatness, etc. Seems like the players are starting to get frustrated by it. Clt Philly Fan- The team is more frustrated by the ineffectiveness of the Eagles Offensive Linemen and the inability of the defense to hold on to leads in the forth quarter. Over the last 2 years under Juan, the Eagles have surrendered 6 leads in the forth quarter. That's not Vick's fault. If Vick was not getting creamed in the pocket he would not have accumulated all of those turnovers. A lot of the hits Vick is taking are good clean shots when blocking assignments are missed.
Dexter - Offense is not scoring enough points, 31st in league, for the defense to hold anything. Offense constantly puts the defense in bad spots with record setting turnovers.

Michael Vick= Scapegoat Number 2. NM Eagle fan- Ridiculous. Foles, Edwards, anyone other than conVicktim.

Generally your concern with rookie QBs is turnovers. LOL can Foles do any worse than 13 turnovers in 6 games? Only in Philly...- Amen.
JDeL - Another logically argument. Must be out of towners.

Reid could get another chance with the fan base if he moved Vick out before the trade deadline in 2 weeks. If he could trade Vick for a solid O-lineman or two...then have Foles show some promise, Reid could buy another year. But short of getting rid of Vick, Reid is toast. Taser- Who would trade for the amount of his contract midseason? Not to mention the public relations fiasco in a different city. He's still the dog killer to many. Not to mention his rampant turnovers? NOBODY is trading for mike vick. Nope, he's our problem. Best we can do is bench him. I'm ready.
