ANDREWS ON HIS WAY

Shawn Andrews was not on the practice field this morning as the Eagles resumed training camp at Lehigh University , but coach Andy Reid said afterward that the two-time Pro Bowl guard was expected to arrive at some point today. “I’m not sure exactly when, but we’ll get him up here and I’ll have a chance to talk to him and see how he’s doing and where he’s at,” Reid said. The coach added that Andrews would not practice today or tomorrow. “I want to see him first before I made any judgments,” Reid said. “I know he’s been working out, but I just want to sit down and talk to him face to face and make sure everything is set up for him here so he can be successful.” Reid indicated that he would take things slowly with Andrews’ return. “(Conditioning) is important,” Reid said. “I’m going to gradually feed him back in and I just want to see how he’s doing. That’s my primary focus right now.” Reid said he had an extensive conversation with Andrews Saturday. “He wants to come back,” Reid said. “I know there is some apprehension there, but I know he wants to come back and get back going and back up here with the guys.” SAMUEL RETURNS Cornerback Asante Samuel returned to practice for the first time since July 26. Samuel, the Eagles’ prized free-agent addition in the offseason, had been out with a strained right hamstring, but participated in one-one-one drills and a team scrimmage that included limited contact. Samuel sat out the latter part of the practice, but Reid said that was to be expected. ROSTER MOVE Veteran defensive tackle Kimo von Oelhoffen was released and the Eagles replaced him by signing rookie free agent Mike Marquardt, who is also a defensive tackle. Von Oelhoffen had been sidelined by a sore knee, but Reid it’s possible the veteran could return again if the Eagles need his services. INJURIES Left tackle Tra Thomas left practice with back spasms, wide receiver Reggie Brown remained sidelined by a sore Achilles and punter Sav Rocca and defensive tackle Montae Reagor both sat out with knee inflammation. Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley was excused from practice for personal reasons.
