Gilyard to visit Eagles

The Eagles held Cleveland to 210 yards and 12 first downs. Is their defense back on track?
Yes. Those are pretty good numbers.
Not yet. Let’s see how the Eagles do against a decent offense.

With Jeremy Maclin possibly on the shelf with a hip injury, the Eagles will bring wide receiver Mardy Gilyard in for a visit Tuesday, a team source said.

Gilyard tweeted that he was returning to Philadelphia, but he has not yet signed a contract, the source said. The Eagles released Gilyard on Aug. 31 as they trimmed their roster to 53.

Maclin suffered a hip flexor strain Sunday against the Browns. Andy Reid did not say if the receiver would miss Sunday's game against the Ravens, but the Gilyard invitation suggests that it is a possibility.

The Eagles are already down a receiver. Riley Cooper missed the opener and will not play Sunday, Reid said. Cooper broke his collarbone early in training camp, but the Eagles decided to keep him on the roster even though he'll now miss at least two games.

When Maclin left the game Sunday, rookie Damaris Johnson took his place at split end opposite DeSean Jackson. Jason Avant, the Eagles' third receiver, has a wrist contusion, but Reid was optimistic about his readiness for the Ravens.

Gilyard had a strong preseason for the Eagles, catching nine passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

I liked the guy…he was great in college and looked good during preseason too! Rather have him then Riley Copper or Chad Hall

He should be on the team instead of cooper. Cooper isn't aggressive enough and doesn't fight the DBs for the ball.

Gilyard hopefully becomes this season's Derek Landri....but not at Cooper's expense...Riley's got game.

They're down to three healthy receivers and they run four wide sets. I think they need to sign someone. I'd rather have Mardy than: McNutt, Ochocinqo, Plex or any of the other retreads. And please, no Chad Hall.

and another thing about Chad Hall - he wasn't interested in a job on the practice squad. If he had taken it, he would be active against the Ravens. So instead he'll be watching like the rest of us.

Gilyard's no Maclin, but he's a legit NFL WR who could step in and play some snaps. Makes sense to me.

Ok but let us run the ball, run run. The Ravens will probably destroy the Birds as one watches them play tonight. But, the Team cannot have Vick just pass pass and get hammered. My guess is the D better be very very good or the Team will be hanging its head after the game.

It's Reid's system, don't ya know. He can take anyone off the street and plug him in there. That's the beauty of The Reid Way. Madness!

Agree with Koons. If Maclin is out, why not make the offensive focus on getting the ball to Shady even more. Let Baltimore deal with a heavy dose of him and get the O line ready to be physical. TEs could have a decent day if Ravens LBs & Safeties have to worry about Shady. Keep the Ravens no-huddle off the field gives Juan less to think about.

Besides just running the ball, what happened to our supposedly good screen game?

He should have made the team right out of camp. They are fortunate that he is still available.
