Maclin out with hamstring injury
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Jeremy Maclin sat out tonight's preseason game against the Steelers with a hamstring injury.
The wide receiver injured his hamstring during pre-game warm-ups, the Eagles said. Rookie Damaris Johnson started in place of Maclin and caught the Eagles' first pass of the game for four yards.
Eagles coach Andy Reid did not include Maclin on his injury list Wednesday, nor was Maclin listed on the pre-game inactives list. The Eagles held a light mock game practice on Wednesday, had off on Tuesday and last practiced on Monday.
Maclin left the afternoon practice early that day with what the Eagles termed as "cramps."

On paper the Eagles have a very nice team, but still the coaches have got to use the players to their strengths not their weaknesses. The Eagles have two big, outstanding bump and run corners who have no business playing slot coverage. Moreover, you have are relatively short QB who is not designed to see over defensive linemen. Vick needs to play outside where he can see, protect himself and scare defenses with both his arms and feet. The pocket will kill him.
As far as Foles goes, living in Tucson I can say that what he did tonight was routine at AZ. Had not the Wild Cats had the second worst defensive in Division One, causing Foles to be lost in the weeds of the college scene because of the team’s poor record, he might easily have been a first round draft pick.
Foles is no tricky runner, but has always been good when flushed from the pocket, with an ability to throw accurately on the move. As a big guy he’s faster than he looks.
