Eagles TE Brent Celek has slight MCL sprain; Andy Reid, Howie Roseman consider options

Eagles tight end Brent Celek has a slight sprain of the MCL in his right knee, which an MRI confirmed after Celek suffered the injury during Thursday afternoon’s practice.

Celek will be day-to-day while recovering. The injury occurred during a naked bootleg when Celek pivoted and had his foot caught in the grass.

“Mild knee sprain, doesn’t hurt that bad,” Celek said. “Just something that I have to be cautious about.”

Coach Andy Reid and general manager Howie Roseman will discuss veteran tight ends, but it doesn’t seem like Jeremy Shockey is in that group. “Not right now, no,” Reid said. Considering Celek could soon return, it might not make sense for the Eagles to sign someone simply to balance the reps in camp. Reid mentioned using a fullback such as Emil Igwenagu in that role.

“We just got to weigh that out, whether we bring somebody else in or do this,” Reid said. “When you bring somebody else in, and if they haven’t been in a camp, then they got to take a three-day build-up, so it’s not going to help you tomorrow. We got to look at those things. And Brent could be back the next couple days, it could be a week.”

For Celek, the injury is frustrating because he arrived at camp with a clean bill of health. The injury likely won't set him back with the offense or make him miss any preseason games unless it lingers. But Celek took little solace in the timing of it, focusing instead that he's not practicing.

“In order to win a Super Bowl," Celek said, "we need all of us out there.”

--@Blue Hen - Major props to you brother for both mentioning a player who tormented your Hens and who could be the answer at FB for our Eagles. This kid Emil Igwenagu is the real deal - size, weight, intellect and motivation too boot.

hindsight...Rreality...you and it should meet sometime. As per Shiancoe, it's called looking for depth and exploring all your options and it's GM 101, something a future FO tsar like you should know all about...did that sound sarcastic enough? And it's a mild sprain, not a compound fracture, relax Charlotte. Typical over reaction by Joe Btfsplk. Stow the cloud for the weekend, will ya? Sheez.

lol, using logic = over-reaction. Being clueless and allowing horrible injuries to happen and re-happen = genius. Maybe even the hall of fame. and definetely a superbowl in 2012. BOOK IT.

L123...hmmm...Fruit Loops...cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs...you may be onto something. He's definitely ODing on one or the other. Scrambled eggs for a chaser?

Hey hindsight...logic? Hahhahahahahaha...GOOD ONE! Oh, you're serious...REALLY? Find ONE camp where there are no injuries. JUst ONE. I defy you to do that moron. LETTING injuries happen? That alone defies logic. Exactly how do you prevent them Junior GM?

Mild strain = over reaction without a doubt Chicken Little. Guess getting his cleat caught in the turf is the grounds keepers fault? MOWERS! GET THOSE DANG MOWERS IN HEE NOW!!!! LET'S GET THOSE NASTY LOOKING DANDELIONS TOO! I DON'T LIKE THE LOOKS OF THEM! Sheez you're stupidity really has reached epic depths. Hey, careful you don't hurt yourself having breakfast chucky...that milk can be sharp!

Could see this developing into a story in mid year, as they missed the boat on Shiancoe, and then watch Shockey get picked up by someone else, as Celek is limping around. As for Reid's comment "if they haven’t been in a camp, then they got to take a three-day build-up," why does every thing have to be so complicated with him. You pick up a vetern, they step right in. Teams do it while the season is in progress for petes sake.
