Trotter disputes T.O. claim in GQ
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Terrell Owens told GQ magazine that Jeremiah Trotter told him not to read the part of the Eagles-scripted letter the wide receiver was to read in 2005 that included an apology to Donovan McNabb.
Trotter called Owens' claim a "super lie" in a text message to The Inquirer on Wednesday night. He added, "I'm very upset with T.O."
The former Eagles linebacker also tweeted the following to Owens: "yo man y u lying to GQ Mag I never told u that call me ASAP!!!!!"
Below is an excerpt from the GQ article that will run in the February edition of the magazine that includes Owens' take on his infamous non-apology to McNabb after his much-publicized feud with the Eagles quarterback. The full story is here.
“To say I regret anything would be a slap in my grandmother’s face,” he says. “Are there some things I might do differently now? Sure.”
Such as?
“Some of the things in Philadelphia.” He sits back in his chair, seeming to catalog the events in his head: proclaiming that he didn’t care what fans thought of him, the locker-room tussle with his teammate Hugh Douglas, the various flare-ups with Donovan McNabb. But definitely not his attempt to renegotiate his $49 million, heavily back-loaded contract. “I was not paid competitively, and that was that,” he says. “The teams talk about how we should keep to our end of the bargain, but then they dump you at the point at which you’d actually start earning out, and that is supposed to be okay. Why don’t they need to keep up their end?”
How about the decision not to publicly apologize to McNabb for suggesting in an interview immediately after the Eagles lost the Super Bowl that the quarterback had “got tired” on the field? For a moment, he is silent. Could he actually be on the verge of admitting he made an error?
“Well, I probably should have done...,” he begins, rubbing his hand along the contours of his massive shaved dome. Then he stops himself. “No. No. Listen, I was in the locker room before the press conference, and my team captain, Jeremiah Trotter, read through that apology they wrote for me. He got to the bottom part, the part where it had the stuff about Donovan, and he did this.” Owens snatches a piece of paper from the table and rips off the bottom three inches. “This is the team leader we’re talking about; he told me not to do it.”
His only real mistake, Owens insists, was “timing. I might not have said or done things at exactly the right moment” (though it’s hard to imagine the right time to publicly dis your QB). He concedes, after some prodding, that he lacks an essential social skill that has cost him. “I am not,” he says, “a tactful person.”
best player on the team when it was in SB though he was injured -- if the rest of team played as well as him they would have won warbiscuit- Owen is, was, and always will be poison....venomous to the Eagles and the rest of the league. He's also a notorious liar, so I wouldn't put much into anything he says. I wouldn't care if he was Superman re-incarnate, I didn't want him on my team from day one. djlen
- TO is a deranged idiot....the dude is sick...has issues...crying on tv about making $49 mil over 7 years...Crying over Tony Romo...the guy is a moron...and the fact that 50% of Eagles fans backed him, as he singlehandely destroyed a potential dynasty, shows how deranged and idiotic half of the fan base is...The same idiots that wanted Kevin Kolb as their QB over the guy that brought them back from Obsurity....anywaysss...
Whining about an apology? Donovan was throwing up on the field, he was tired. It's not like the man lied. We allowed on of the most prolific receivers in the game to walk away because of the Quarterback's feelings being hurt. Come on Maan!
TO Deserved to say what he felt, he has a lot of faults, but that kid could run and catch that ball and put on a show in the Super Bowl.
Dexter- There are a million cameras covering the Superbowl. Yet, not one picture of McNabb throwing up has ever been produced. How is that?
On the other hand, I've seen many players throw up during the course of a game, including Westbrook and DeSean Jackson.
Lastly, at the time McNabb supposedly threw up, he threw a TD pass immediately afterward. So what's the big deal? - wolf, i hate you just as much as i hate T.O. go google "mcnabb puking". it happened. i watched it live and went "damn, did he just puke?". he did. there are pictures. you're an idiot.
- Randomm82, if you are going to suggest to someone to "google" something, perhaps your argument would hold more solid ground if your produced the pictures you speak of. I just did and have not found a SINGLE google image of McNabb puking in the Super Bowl. What you most likely came across was a game against Tampa Bay...and the last time I checked, the Eagles never (and could never) play TB in a Super Bowl.
carnagexxxx - u and ur boy T.O should go and cry for his QB Romo back to Cowboy land stop talking about Mcnabb, Mcnabb never got enough credit for what he did with a group of mediocret WR, so the only time he had a #1 WR he makes it to the super bowl.
T.K.O
wouldn't believe anything TO says. the guy is clearly bipolar. nevertheless, everyone handled that situation wrong - TO, mcnabb, reid, trotter, even dawkins. no one took control of the situation and let bipolar TO and wusst McNabb's beef ruin a great team. so sad. TO's point about the contract is stupid. if he had played to the same level, they never would have cut him and would have made most of that money and possibly WON A CHAMPIONSHIP. The Boston Strangler
Why is T.O. even still relevant? And why is ancient Eagles history from 2004-05 being printed in GQ, especially when Trotter says T.O. is lying? Who do we believe, T.O. or Trotter? I think the answer is obvious. kingsolomonsmind
So how much coin would it have taken to buy TO's happiness? Is there any question we win the Super Bowl the following season? Sometimes these mgt people don't understand they lose by winning. Pay the players. Feed their egos. And let them win us a championship.
TO is losing his mind now though. djack10

T.O. was stupid. If he thought he was underpaid he should not have signed. What a dope. Another thing, where is he now? Not one team was stupid enough to bring him back. grimm39
In hindsight they really should have paid him/ JoeinSouthPhilly
