Vick: "I got hit late"

POSTED: Sunday, September 25, 2011, 5:13 PM

Who should start at quarterback for the Eagles next week against the 49ers?
Mike Kafka
Michael Vick
Vince Young

Michael Vick said that he isn't receiving the calls other quarterbacks in the NFL receive when they get hit. The quarterback broke his right non-throwing hand today in the Eagles' 29-16 loss to the New York Giants.

Vick stayed in the game briefly, left for an X-ray and then returned. A first X-ray was negative, the Eagles said, and Vick went back into the game. However, after a second X-ray showed a hairline fracture, Vick was pulled. He's availability for next week is in question.

It was the second straight week that Vick did not complete a game he started. Last week against the Falcons he suffered a concussion.

Today's injury occurred late in the third quarter after Vick completed a 23-yard pass to receiver Jeremy Maclin. He was hit by Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty on the throw.

"After such a great play I felt like I got hit late," Vick said. "There's no flag. Broke my hand. That's it."

Vick was asked how exactly he broke his hand.

"It really don't matter where it was at," Vick said. "I was trying to protect myself. Still didn't get a flag. That's pretty much the story for the last three weeks. Obviously, at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand.

"Not to blame the refs or say it was their fault. It's just one of those unfortunate situations. I just think more precaution should be taken when I'm inside the pocket. If you look at all the replays I'm on the ground every time. It's unfortunate for myself, it's unfortunate for my team and I'll be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated right now because of that."

Asked if he thought he wasn't getting calls that other quarterbacks get Vick said, "Absolutely."

Why?

"You all see it. There's no reason for me to go into a big disseration about why I'm not getting the calls," Vick said. "The refs -- they got to do their jobs, as well. I even mentioned it in training camp to the refs when we had our little meeting."

Vick was asked if he thought he could play next week when the Eagles host the 49ers.

"I don't know," he said. "I don't know if I'm going to be able to play next week. I don't know anything right now except my hand is broken and we got to figure out what's the next move."

Wow...Vick is a whiner...he wrongly blames the ref...Vick holds the ball way too long because he is a slow thinker and can't decide who he should throw to, and then he runs and is a legal target for the whole defense...all qb's get hit, just ask Ron Jaworski who got nailed so many times, but Jaws never complained about the refs need to protect him.....Vick is starting to panic because he is LOSING....period.

first of all this is a different era these guys play in the rules that are he now weren't there in his day or I'm quite sure he'd have complained as well. Second Jaw's was a dudd who could never win the big games. You bring him up is a joke.

It doesn't matter if Vick plays or not. Reid would find a way to lose if he had Brady, Manning or Rodgers. It's all on him. And it just goes on and on. If I was spending the money Lurie was spending I'd hold him more accountable for his stupidity. But the maybe it's a case of stupid as stupid does.

If Reid didn't start Vick, you would blame him. I he started Kafka, you would have blamed him. Give him a break. How long did it take Cower to win a SB? I am concerned about the late defensive collapses. That is not a good sign.

Now Vick's going to whine about the refs...what a wuss...Last week Matt Ryan was getting belted in the head, and the refs didn't call a penalty....all QB's get hit, and especially Vick who likes to run all the time....Vick needs to stop whinning like a little girl now that the Eagles are losing.

I feel for Vick- it's unconscionable when someone hits another living being when they are defenseless, causing them pain and suffering- maybe McCanty forgot he was playing football at the Linc and instead thought he was at Bad Newz Kennel and Vick was a pit bull

Hey Vick...the refs didn't protect all those helpless dogs you killed for fun..stop whining like a little sissy when you start losing like this...Eagles are 1-6 in their last 7 games...but they pay you, the cold hearted dog killer $100 million to whine.
