"Swingers" bash a no go-go in West Deptford

POSTED: Friday, December 2, 2011, 8:43 AM
The view inside Club Champagne. And just like the song, there will be no sex in here either, police said.

The prospect of a bacchanal featuring “food…strippers and SEX all under one roof” proved way too wild for West Deptford, where police have shut down the party before it could get started.

Promoted online by something called “Strip Club Takeover,” the private event was to have been held December 3 at Club Champagne, a Crown Point Road establishment where the regular dancers have evocative names like "Cashmere."

In addition to chicken marsala and tortellini, the event’s offerings were to have included “couples play,” presumably not a reference to a theatrical presentation.

“The way it was advertised, there could have been problems,” township police chief Craig Mangano told the Gloucester County Times.

Speaking of swingers: Club Champagne was previously the site of a country/western bar that later turned into a gay disco.

And for a glimpse of what can happen when too much go-go hits a small town, check out this clip from Village of the Giants, a 1965 camp-fest about a gang of gargantuan, gyrating juvenile delinquents.

Yup. That’s Beau Bridges.

Dropping a turd on the floor would have stopped the party.

The only difference between what might have taken place at this event and Mr. Cain's and Mr. Gingrinch's past hanky-panky is that the spouses of the folks at the event would KNOW and be OK with what was going on. If the event was private and only open to those who knew ahead of time what was up there sould be no "crime" for what consenting adults do with each other.

Is that actress dancing with Beau the one who washed the car in "Cool Hand Luke"?

Being a private party I'm wondering under what regulations the police were able to shut this down? If the venue is allowed to be rented, and it's not open to the general public, (most of these swinging events require attendees to "join" a club and pay a nominal dues fee), I'm not sure how the police have a right to stop it. Most of these events only attract the unattractive anyway. Folks who like to swap and are reasonably attractive have so many other options that thes events are usually not very good..

And what was the point of that video clip? Hardly an example of what was going to take place. None of the woman would be that attractive and the guys would all have beer belies. Stupid clip.

James, does the institution know that you are blogging again? How do you type while wearing a straight jacket? I thought Americans believed in keeping the government out of our private lives. Not so. They only want to de-regulate busniess while keeping government very much involved in our private lives.

James, spare us all the nonsense about "public safety". What part of the public exactly is put at risk by this event? Be specific because I can't think of one segment that would face any danger where a private event is held with paid attendees doing exactly what they expected to do at an event like this. If "public safety" is ultimately the concern then we need to shut down every sporting arena in the country. There is more danger in those venues then in this venue.

The ironic part is, the same people who object to this event are the ones with the "Don't Tread on Me" flags and bumper stickers who whine and complain about the overreaching government telling them what to do, where to do and with whom they can do it with. You hypocrites should be required to put a disclaimer on all your wares. Along the bottom on your flags it should say "but we'll tread all over you if we disagree with you even just a little bit." At least then we'd have some truth in advertising.
