Rut-Row: Echoes of Pelosi?

Some NJ legislators not sure what's in higher ed bill

Rut-Row: Echoes of Pelosi?

As Trenton attempts to conjure up legislation to reconfigure the future for thousands of college students, faculty, employees and other stakeholders statewide -- by an arbitrary July 1 deadline! -- at least one lawmaker is telling it like it is.

“I still don’t understand the whole [higher education restructuring] plan because it’s changing by the hour,” Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, D-Paramus, told The Record newspaper.

“I still don’t know what I’m voting on.”

The frenzied sausage-making about Rutgers, Rowan, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey brings to mind another unlovely process.

Amid the brawl that brought us what's popularly (or unpopularly) known as Obamacare, Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the House, also appeared to acknowledge a certain lack of legislative understanding -- which the U.S. Supreme Court may clarify Thursday

That's the day New Jersey legislators are expected to vote on their ever-evolving "restructuring" scheme(s), about which no less a prognosticator than restructurer-in-chief Chris Christie professes to be "optimistic."
