Ocean City, NJ ethics board spends $22K pursuing $200 fine

Perhaps to protect its trademarked brand, "America's Greatest Family Resort," Ocean City, NJ set up its own ethics board in 2007. Most New Jersey municipalities let the state handle ethics complaints.

In four years, the all-volunteer OC board has fined a single individual: Beach Patrol chief Thomas Mullineaux.

But Mullineaux' appeal of the $200 penalty has so far cost the city $22,000, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

Now OC Mayor Jay Gillian wants to abolish the board, a recent agenda of which does suggest that it spends much if not most of its time discussing...Mullineaux.
