Ocean City, NJ gets happy

New national survey says people in the Shore resort are less depressed or angry than anywhere else

Here's some good news for the New Year.

Ocean City, NJ, which already promotes itself as "America's Greatest Family Resort," has a new fame-claim.

Without liquor sales or even BYOB licenses -- not yet, anyway -- OC is the least depressed place in the nation.

That's according to a poll conducted by the venerable Gallup organization.

"It fits…perfectly," the equally venerable city spokesman Mark Soiffer told the Atlantic City Press.

Residents of the Cape May County area, which includes Ocean City, also report the lowest levels of anger.

Gallup reached these conclusions to talking to a million Americans over a three-year period.

Soiffer, who gave the world the amiably zany Miss Crustacean beauty pageant, only needed to stroll the OC boardwalk.

"People were smiling and laughing, saying hello, wishing you a happy new year," he said, adding, "I can relate to that."

So can I.

Happy New Year!
