Magnificent

U2 at the Linc

Forget the bizarre "Claw," that crustacean-like special effects scaffold towering above (and beyond) U2 Thursday night at the Linc.

Forget, too, the occasionally overwhelming over-the-top-i-tude of Bono and the boys.

Remember instead the pealing of voice and guitar, and the thunder of bass and drums, as the band rode an avalanche of anthems beneath an immaculate rising moon.

Remember what you felt when Irish history -- a majestic version of "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" – blended with imagery inspired by the Arab Spring.

Remember the shiver in your spine when "Space Oddity" met "Beautiful Day" as a tribute to grievously wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, complete with video of her astronaut husband Mark Kelly ("tell my wife I love her very much," indeed).

Remember the elegant video eloquence of the recently liberated Burmese dissident Aung San Suu Kyi.

Free at last.

As were all 67,000 of us at the Linc.
