Dirty trick on GOP VP leak?

Who's to say it's bad form for the Republicans to leak the VP pick to steal some limelight from Barack Obama's big speech?

Who's to say it's bad form for the Republicans to leak the VP pick to steal some limelight from Barack Obama's big speech?

Obama's spokesman for one.

Communications chief Dan Pfieffer told Politico it would be "political malpractice" for the name to surface tonight, which is what the Drudge Report is teasing:

NAME MAY LEAK AT 6 PM ET... WITH SOME SORT OF CONFIRMATION AT 8 PM... DEVELOPING...

A commenter on Jonathan Martin's blog at Politico aired the other view:

Obama played media games for an entire week about his VP decision. Now Obomaphiles are syaing its unfair for McCian to try and create some buzz of his own. Just sayin'

Who's in the running? Convention wisdom (meaning I've read this list everywhere) rounds up former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, former Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge and Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. The above graphic, prepared by the AP, adds Ohio Rep. Rob  Portman.

The New York Times is reporting that McCain will announce his choice at 11 a.m. Friday in Dayton. Officially. The Times piece quotes GOP insiders as confirming that the big three are Romney, Pawlenty and Lieberman.

Politico puts Lieberman, an independent, in a more-distant third.

Is Romney's security sweep the tell? Or is it the old cancel my appointments thing.
