Coffee start-ups, perking together

South Jersey alliance is cool beans

Two South Jersey coffee entrepreneurs have joined forces to boost their businesses.

A startup called Revolution Coffee Roasters, in Collingswood, is supplying beans to the Barrington Coffee House on Clements Bridge Road in Barrington. The coffee house re-opened in March under new ownership.

"This is jumping a hurdle. It can mean everything, in terms of exposure," says Stephen McFadden, 44, of Barrington, one of Revolution's three owners.

The roastery fired up in July at The Factory Workers, a makers space at Haddon and Fern avenues in downtown Collingswood. "One of his roasts went like wildfire after we started serving it last week," says Richard Pritchard, 53, of Oaklyn, who runs Barrington Coffee house with his wife, Eleanor. "I think it's really important to help out local businesspeople."

Revolution also sells at the Collingswood Farmers Market and at The American Table, a new, locally owned shop in downtown Collingswood. Noting that many coffee shops use a single and often regional or national supplier, McFadden says local connections are essential.
