We write delicately about Stephen A. Smith, not because he is a colleague here at the Inquirer, but because we cannot truthfully say we have ever watched an entire Quite Frankly... episode on ESPN.

So we won't see Dusty Baker, the Cub's manager, on the show today. But neither will you.

Baker backed out of last week's taping, and the Deadspin blog said that was because someone from Smith's show sent an email that encourange an audience to come and boo the embattled manager if they wanted.

Smith cried foul. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Smith accused Deadspin of doctoring the memo.

But a bunch of Cubbies bloggers said differently. They'd gotten the email, too.

Then Smith dug into the matter and found that, quite frankly, an overzealous assistant producer did call for Bronx cheers.

View From The Bleachers, a Cubbies blog, linked a follow-up from Friday's Chicago Tribune, which reported:

"He lied to everybody," Smith said. "Then he tried to cover it up." The aide had e-mailed an invitation to several Cubs blogs offering free tickets to the taping of the show and adding: "You guys can definitely feel free to BOO Dusty if you so please." After learning of the memo, Baker pulled out. Smith said the assistant producer admitted Friday he had lied. "I apologize for any unethical behavior from a member of my staff," Smith said. "He will be dealt with."

I REALIZE THAT YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER SEE THIS, BUT THANKS FOR OFFERING THIS VENUE WHICH ALLOWS ME TO VENT MY FEELINGS. I FOUND YOUR PROGRAM WITH MR. RHODES TOBE ONE OF YOUR MOST INTERESTING ONES.AS A 76 YEAR OLD BLACK MALE WHO SPENT HIS FIRST 12 YEARS IN TULSA OKLA., I KEPT WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO REFER TO THE PERIOD IN TIME WHEN ALL BLACKS LIVED TOGETHER (REGARDLES OF STATION IN LIFE) IN SELF CONTAINED COMMUNITIES. AT THAT TIME WE WERE ONE BIG FAMILY. EVERYONE FELT INDEBTED TO EVERYONE ELSE. EVERYTHING WE DID REFLECTED ON OUR COMUNITY--GOOD,OR BAD.

IT WAS NOT A MATTER OF HOW MUCH MONEY ONE COULD GIVE BUT RATHER HOW MUCH ONE COULD GIVE OF ONE'S SELF.

JOE LOUIS, HANK AARON, MILES DAVIS,LAWRENCE DUNBAR AND EVERY OTHER "BLACK CELEB" LIVED IN SUCH AN ENVIRONMENT. THEY USED THERE TALENT TO FOSTER HOPE IN THE NEXT GENERATION. TODAY, YOU AND ALL BLACK SUCCESSFUL BLACKS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE TO OUR PEOPLE.

BILL COSBY DONATES $20,000,000 TO A BLACK COLLEGE(MONEY THAT WOULD OTHER WISE GO IN THE FORM OF TAXES), AND STATES LOOK AT ME "I HAVE DONE MY SHARE".

IF YOU PEOPLE WANT TO CHANGE THE PROBLEMS IN THE GHETTO, DO LIKE JIM BROWN, GET INVOLVED.

THE FIRST 12 YEARS OF MY LIFE I WENT TO AN ALL BLACK SCHOOL. I LEARNED MORE IN THOSE FIRST 6 YEARS THAN I DID IN THE NEXT 12. THANKS TO THE VILLAGE THAT I HAD AT MY DISPOSAL, I SUCCEDED.

USE AS YOU SEE FIT. THANK YOU.

Stephen A. Smith is, quite frankly, unwatchable.
