Johnny Apple Remembered

Of all the tributes I've read upon the passing of larger-than-life New York Timesman R. W. Apple Jr., only Sally Swift's could be titled, Johnny Apple, pussycat.

In one of my favorites of her Brushes With Greatness series, The Daily Sally remembers another side of the "grand and grandiose, brilliant and blustery" reporter.

Swift was working for Pennsylvania Gov. Milton Shapp in the early 1970s when she first felt Apple's gravitational pull.

Thanks, Dan, you did my blood-sweat-and-tears effort--and Apple--proud. And I will never back down from the Pussycat defense, it's all true.
