56 Bustles In Your Hedgerow

56 Bustles In Your Hedgerow

This is for the son who has spent the last three years perfecting  "Stairway to Heaven" on guitar. Having finally nailed the solo, he is read to move on.

Think of this as a graduation present.

From WMFU's Beware the Blog, links to every imaginable bad cover of this Led Zeppelin classic. That's right. 56 over-the-top versions.

There's the brilliant mash-up of "Stairway" and the theme song from  Gilligan's Island. Quickly silenced by lawyers, it was created by Little Roger and the Goosebumps, and I'd feared, lost forever. A search of the Web yielded an entire history of this version.

Littlebuddy There's an Australian music hall version. A Frank Zappa version. Richard Cheese's lounge version. Pat Boone's metal version. The song as Schubert might have composed it. "Stairway" sung by Tiny Tim and backed by Brave Combo. The torturous version by Venetian Snares and Speedranch. And if the Foo Fighters version reminds of recurring dream where you're in a high school play and don't know your lines, the backward version is just a nightmare. I'm guessing my son will work on that one next.
