Radio Daze

If you grew up around Philly on '70s radio, this post by DJ Robert Drake will bring back the sounds of Wibbage and The Boss Jocks, memories of Bananamobiles and the Steel Pier Showcase.

He's got a link to Hy Lit Radio,  which my barber (in radio silence since the betrayal by WPEN) would gladly play if he only had a computer in his shop.

Trawling for art work, I found this page dedicated to the history of Philadelphia radio, Part 1.

My earliest memories are of my older sisters sunbathing on the second-floor roof of the our Manayunk rowhouse, playing WFIL. Cool.

And speaking of radio, if I can shill for myself for a second, here's a piece I wrote this week on the topic. Enjoy!

Great article CM. I have to find the 9/11 Stern broadcast now. Talk radio definitely has that advantage, the ability to bring together a community... the 88.5 thing sounded more like it divided a community! :)

When I was a student at Penn in the early 1970s I listened to a leftist named "My Father's Son" on the public station (90.9??) Can't remember exactly. But - does anyone know who he was - and what became of him? Could it possibly have been WXPN?
