The Year In Blogs
Thanks, ALA. When I started this as a job in May I sent a notice around to the entire newsroom, asking 'do you have a blog?' A famously cranky columnist wrote back, "You might have well have written 'Are you an #$$hole?'" Now some of the staff blogs have become my favorite things -- 2 awesome photo blogs, a book blog, a dog blog, a blog from Baghdad, Africa, the city streetscape. How do you resist an open canvas that's as convenient as the girl/boy next door - the ability to capture scenes, share bits, riff, go narrow and deep - or just shout out and connect?
I don't know much about Topix.net, but it's led to a boom in readership for Beerleaguer. The day Manny was rumored to be coming to Philadelphia was the most hits I ever received in a single day, most of them coming by way of Topix.
there's even class on it at Haverford now. http://www.haverford.edu/psych/ddavis/blog_writing/wrpr115a_04_syl1.html ----- COMMENT: AUTHOR: GC Philo
And its huge not only in the US, but around the world too! In my book, 2005 will be remembered as the year I started my blog too...

...bigger than the holocaust. well maybe not that big. lol Yes Dan blogs are huge. What I like is that there is such a diversity of them. The MSM is so dull grey. How much difference really is there between the WSJ, WP, NYT? How much difference really between Fox & CNN - only shades. There are hundreds of POVs on every issue out there. Let them speak!
i started a little blogsite right after i ruptured my achilles tendon. let's face it, i suddenly had a ton more time on my hands so why not start a blog? i'd always wanted to! anyway, 2 months in and i just got my 1,500th hit which totally blows me away. i have even gotten my first bits of angry mail from it. i *must* be doing something right to get 'em that fired up! blogs rule! http://einkleinesblog.blogspot.com/ p.s. we miss dan during the holydays.
