Buff Baathist

Discretion calls for a small version of this morning's front page of The Sun, the cheeky Brit tab that managed to snag a year-or-so old pic of jailed Saddam Hussein in his tighty whities.

Publication of the shot and others of Hussein washing clothes and sleeping in bed has triggered an investigation by U.S. military officials looking into whether his rights under the Geneva Convention have been violated. President Bush, according to a spokesman who obviously was not choosing his words carefully, has been "briefed."

The Sun says it got the pictures from a U.S. military source and will publish more Saturday. The NY Post, another Murdoch property, ran them, too. Lawyers for the deposed dictator have threatened suit. Our photo of the photo comes from Reuters.

Among those not so sorry: Those at the Kurdistan Bloggers Union. Writes Hiwa:

This made me forget me failing yesterday's exam!
He deserves worse,
Geneva Gonvention is for Human being, he is NOT!

And from John Hinderaker at Power Line:

Saddam used to have his minions make videos when they would torture, rape and murder his political opponents (or anyone else who happened to run afoul of the ruling gang of criminals). Saddam and his cohorts would watch these videos for fun. (Hitler did the same thing, by the way--one of the rare Hitler analogies that is actually justified.) So do I have a lot of sympathy because Saddam got photographed in his underwear, folding a pair of slacks in what looks, not like a jail cell, but like a hotel room? Um, no. I don't.

There's a lesson here for American MSM. When you click to the Sun's site to see the photos, they tell you to go buy a copy of the newspaper: http://www.thesun.co.uk/section/0,,1,00.html

Those are probably much cleaner undies than he was wearing down in that spider hole.

Maybe Saddam, if he beats the rap, can team up with Michael Jordan in Haines commercials.

No, you shouldn't feel sorry for him, but those Iraqis are PO'ed! Between that and prisoner abuse, Americans are not looking so good. Take all that stuff and add in the flushing of the Koran down the TOILET... the Bible would be another story, the group of "Christian Extremists" is much smaller than the Muslim counterpart, those of which now hate us more than ever...

The years-old picture of saddam "debriefed" and Newsweek's lie regarding the Koran abuse were deliberately published to provoke the Muslim world and to embarass the Bush Administration.

As for Mr. Briefs, I always pictured him as a thong guy.

Al-jazeera has not shown these "new" pictures of saddam. Apparently it is more "ethical" to promote terrorist's beheading videos.

Most Iraqi's are happy to see the dictator in his briefs. Those who will be upset over these pictures will be from outside Iraq.

Wonder if he puts them on one leg at a time just like everybody else?
