Maybe inspired by Sunday's column about Ernie Dubay, the pharmacist's mate who swears it was he who kissed that girl back in 1945.

Ernie, a class act, is a retired school principal in Burlington County, N.J. For more than 50 years he kept from his wife his story of rushing to Times Square on VJ Day. Why? They were childhood sweethearts and soon to be engaged.

"I should have been kissing her," he said.
