I-95 reopens after fire truck, tractor trailer crash

A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a fire truck in the soubound lanes of I-95 at Penns Landing snarled traffic around Center City during the morning rush hour Wednesday and sent five fighters to hospital for evaluation.

The accident, during which the tractor trailer jackknifed and rammed into a wall, happened about 3:30 a.m. north of Washington Avenue, according to PennDot.

That stretch of the highway was shut down for several hours and reopened about 7 a.m., though traffic stuck behind the crash was slowly starting to move again a bit earlier.

The fire crew had been responding to another accident on the highway when the crash occurred.

The tractor-trailer driver wasn't hurt, a Fire Department spokesman said.
