Tattle: Not the 'boos' Charlie's used to

When Charlie Sheen announced he was taking his crazy on the road, numerous comedians scoffed at the notion that he would be able to do an entire evening of stand-up comedic ranting, when many nights, it seems, he couldn't even stand up.

Looks like they were right.

Charlie kicked off his "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not an Option" 20-city variety show tour Saturday night at the 5,100 seat Fox Theater in the Motor City but his motormouth ran out of gas shortly after he walked on stage to a thunderous ovation.

Charlie tried to appease his audience with anger, a rapper and a Q&A, but concluded the first show was "an experiment."

Unfortunately, people paid good money to be his unwitting test subjects. Charlie was heckled, booed and eventually abandoned by the audience, many of whom chanted "refund" and headed for the exits before the show abruptly ended.

It wasn't clear when the audience turned on Charlie, but there were many awkward moments — such as when he said he thought Detroit would be a good city to tell jokes about crack. Booooooo!

At another point, Sheen showed a short film he wrote, directed and produced years ago called "RPG." He sat in the front row to watch the flick, which starred a much younger Johnny Depp. Booooooo!

As the showed bogged down, a booing audience member prompted Charlie to reply, "I've already got your money, dude."

After sustained booing, Charlie tried to calm the crowd.

"Come on, guys. You paid to see me," he said. "...You gave me your hard-earned money without knowing what this (expletive) show was about. I'm here now ... and I'm willing to open up."

Last night Charlie was scheduled to "open up" in Chicago. Tattle's guess is he'll make as many shows as possible no matter what the reviews are. After all, he's "already got your money" and he doesn't want to give it back to you.
