Car hits horse carriages, injures 3
The car pushed a carriage through a metal fence and onto a lawn while 2 horses ran wild through Center City.
At around 9:30 this morning, a car ran into two horse-drawn carriages at 6th and Race streets, as reported by Action News.
Police say a 23-year-old woman was ejected from a carriage. She was taken to Jefferson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Another man, in his 60s, was also taken to Jefferson. However, it is unknown if he was in the carriage or the car.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
KYW is reporting that "Three people -- two carriage drivers and the car driver -- were taken to the hospital for evaluation." The story at kyw1060.com also notes that "The impact of the crash overturned one carriage and pushed another through a metal fence and onto the lawn of the American College of Physicians. The car ended up underneath one of the carriages."
The Inquirer reports that two of the horses broke loose from their carriages and were running through the streets of Center City before being rounded up by police.
Meanwhile, a new Philadelphia organization called the Peace Advocacy Network wasted no time in commenting on the accident.
President Leila Fusfeld said: "This is one of many reasons that the Peace Advocacy Network is asking Councilman Frank DiCicco to propose a ban on horse-drawn carriages in Philadelphia, and this accident has strengthened our resolve to advocate for a ban. We will be protesting this Saturday from 2:30 to 4:30 on 6th Street between Market and Chestnut and we hope that other concerned citizens will join us."
