Reid staring at the end

Sunday, October 28, 2012, 4:07 PM
The operating theory, mostly because Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has said as much, is that Andy Reid awoke Sunday morning with 10 games to save his job. It was the clearest of imperatives. After all of the years, all of the great moments, all of the disappointments, it was to be a final sprint to the... Read more

Eagles' Bowles: 'We've got to finish and win games'

Tuesday, October 16, 2012, 5:28 PM
Wearing a Temple hoodie, new Eagles defensive coordinator Todd Bowles channeled a little bit of Hyman Roth from “The Godfather, Part II” at his introductory press conference. It was the this-is-the-business-we-have-chosen line from the movie, and it was used in reference to the sudden firing... Read more

Castillo's firing: stunning and desperate

Tuesday, October 16, 2012, 10:09 AM
First reaction: stunned. I am not surprised that Juan Castillo is not calling the defenses for the Eagles anymore -- and especially not after cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha openly criticized schematic decisions at the end of the Eagles' collapse on Sunday against the Lions. But I figured head coach Andy... Read more

Eagles collapse into the bye

The Eagles seem incapable of putting anybody away early. Maybe that will change, maybe some day, but as the evidence mounts, it does not seem likely. They are a good offense, but mistake-prone. They are a stingy defense, but make few big plays. The result is agony. Get used to it -- and double up on... Read more

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- “I’m not going to sentence you to centuries in prison,” Judge John Cleland said, as Jerry Sandusky stood before him. Sandusky wore the red uniform of a prisoner in the Centre County system. He looked thinner than he had, grayer, after three months in jail. After... Read more

Eagles fall to Steelers, 16-14

Sunday, October 7, 2012, 4:14 PM
PITTSBURGH -- A cold rain fell intermittently on Heinz Field. It was the second half of Eagles vs. Steelers, and the Eagles were trying to overcome another first half of mistakes. It was a game where Michael Vick could not hold on to the ball, again. And where they couldn’t sack the quarterback... Read more

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com Reach Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com.
