Boosh? Bob? Lavy won't say

Saturday, April 16, 2011, 9:02 PM
Brian Boucher? Sergei Bobrovsky? Game 3? Coach? “I don’t talk about goaltenders,” Peter Laviolette said. He also says he does not talk about injuries or lineups. The man is no fun -- except that, in the absence of word from the Flyers’ coach, everyone is just going to revert... Read more

Flyers win a wild one

Saturday, April 16, 2011, 7:54 PM
Desperation comes in all shapes and sizes. It wears many colors. Sometimes, we now know, it is played out to the accompaniment of circus music. After losing Game 1 of their opening round playoff series to the Buffalo Sabres, losing Game 1 at home in a 1-0 shutout, the Flyers’ predicament was... Read more

Let the worrying begin

Thursday, April 14, 2011, 10:06 PM
With that, the worrying commences. You are the favored team, you lose the first game, you lose it at home, and you then deal with the nervousness that rains down all around you. That is suddenly the Flyers’ predicament after their 1-0 loss to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 1 of their first-round... Read more

Flyers blueprint: wear out Sabres defense

Thursday, April 14, 2011, 9:56 AM
The Flyers are at their best when they are in transiton. I think we've all seen that in the last couple of seasons. They have three balanced scoring lines, and they have elite players on each of those lines, and they can come at an opponent in waves. They are as good at turning a neutral zone turnover... Flyers can win without Pronger

They played 50 games with Pronger this season and earned 67 percent of the available points in the standings in those games. They played 32 games without Pronger... Read more

Living in an Eagles vacuum

I cannot believe how dead this NFL off-season feels. The labor stuff interests me more than the average person because making sure I have at least half a clue about such things is what I do for a living. (Maybe they can put that on my tombstone: "Here lies Rich Hofmann, he had half a clue.") But the... Read more

Flyers will use both goalies

Monday, April 11, 2011, 9:42 AM
Random thoughts about the Flyers’ goaltending situation, beginning with something that seems obvious (at least to me): That both Sergei Bobrovsky and Brian Boucher will play before this thing is over, whenever it is over. Coach Peter Laviolette has spent the entire season delivering the same... Read more

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at Reach Rich at
