NFL on the verge of anarchy

Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 10:25 AM
I don’t remember all of the details, but one of my favorite officiating stories involves Tim Higgins, the longtime college basketball referee who is reportedly retiring this year. It was at an NCAA Tournament game, deep into the tournament, maybe at a regional final. I don’t remember the... Read more

How long can Vick survive this?

Sunday, September 23, 2012, 7:11 PM
The Michael Vick breathwatch has begun. The question is simple: when will the last gulp of air be forced from his body by another hit? It was the overarching question for the Eagles on a disaster of an afternoon in Arizona. During a game where very little went right, in any phase, Vick was pulverized... Read more

Sunday, September 9, 2012, 4:40 PM
CLEVELAND -- On a day where pretty much everything the Eagles did on offense was disconcerting, except for the final score, the Eagles beat the Browns in their 2012 season opener, 17-16. And with that, the hand-wringing will understandably begin in earnest. Why? Mostly because quarterback Michael... Read more

The word on Michael Vick and his dinged ribs is this, after a day of practice at the NovaCare Complex: “Still sore,” he said. “Feels a lot better,” he said. “Just working through it,” he said. There would appear to be little question now that he will be the Eagles’... Read more

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at Reach Rich at
