Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Thanks for the emails.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Les Bowen warned me this morning, after reading my story out of Buffalo, that the emails would be coming soon. Years ago, he said he did what I did -- made a reference to the John Belushi line in "Animal House" that asked "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" He didn't explain it in his story and neither did I. We both just assumed that people would get it.

Well, so much assuming.

Most of the dozen or so emails were nice, figuring I was busy and typing a lot during the Flyers' series and this one just somehow slipped through. A few were less nice. Two used the word "idiot." When I sent along an explanation, most of the replies were nice enough. Most.

Anyway, here's the clip. It's a little NSFW.

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest.
