Any qualified College or NFL coach (former or present) that has 5 years coaching and recruiting experience would be a fool to come to the Eggos and be subjected to working under a 37 year boy (Roseman) who does not have a clue about assessing talent. Check it HOwy boys resume/bio:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howie_Roseman

If I am a 49 year Chip Kelly or even John Gruden, their is no way I would coach in Phill when the Player/Personell decisions are being run by a kid who thinks this is Fantasy Football. LOL. The Eggos and Mr Lurie are jokes.

No one can deny that RG3, playing hurt changed the dynamics of the game. If not for that bad knee, I feel certain the Redskins would have won the game.

Defense does win championships. The point is, you don't need a offensive machine scoring 25ppg if you are giving up 14ppg. Once a player gets to the NFL, O or D, their is a certain expectation....that they can play. If management/coach is strong and has drafted the right people, they will score points. Keep the other team off the board and it's over...

It's not the fans. It's Howie, and his boss Laurie. Any coach who would come here,(with other jobs open) is nuts.

How about an owner with NO clue....a GM who is NOT a football guy and his only experience was being Joe's lackey but will be the one picking the talent....and a cupboard bare of talent (maybe 5 guys on offense and 3 on defense) and an o-line that could not start for Alabama (except for Jason if he comes back) ....so only a coach desperate for a chance to be a head coach in the NFL will take this job......THANKS JEFFERY.....How is your gold standard looking NOW ?

The only "retread" worth pursuing is Bill Cowher. The rest of these guys are burned out. Stay the course and find that diamond in the rough like Reid, and remember that guy Joe Gibbs??? He was an unknown from San Diego. It has been one week...way too early to panic. Besides who got hired so far?? Marrone and that is it!!!

When will fans wake up? The Eagles DO NOT need to win a Super Bowl....you the fans, are putting money into Lurie's pockets by spending your money on the garbage he puts on the field and will pay for whatever mottos he uses to sell his snake oil to you.

Gold Statard, Dream Team.....keep digging deep into your pockets and Lurie and company laugh all the way to the bank. 54 yeasrs and NO championships.

Its in the water. Who would want to come to Philly when you look at the organization in place: Lurie, a clueless owner about to enter into divorce proceedings in which his wife could get half the team. (LA Dodgers East?) Roseman, a clueless (whatever his title is). Great football minds?....but great with being 20million under the cap with a 4 and 12 team. They will look for the cheapest candidate (probably already have their man) but want to put a spin on that they interviewed "several candidates before they "got their man"...Anybody with head coach experience wouldn't want to come here and have that great footnball mind of roseman be you boss. So they will settle for an former assistant, who will take the position, be the lowest paid coach in the league, and do Howie's shirts for a living. This is NOT a franchise where people want to be seen. Laurie and roseman are looking for a sycophant for a head coach. Maybe someone in the high school ranks?? A losing organization as long as roseman is here!!!!!

Reasons a future head coach would lean toward the Eagles: good organization, good team speed, overall a pretty good roster.

Reasons not to take this job: 3-4 defense may be more effective these days, but the Eagles have 4-3 personnel, like Ryans and Kendricks. Plenty of speed and excitement on the offensive side, but is the receiving corps championship caliber? Is Nick Foles the next Eli Manning or the next Alex Smith? Special teams have been mediocre at best. That's probably the easiest place to change, with relatively cheap players, but you've got all three areas to deal with, not just one or two.

Is Roseman an impediment? I doubt it. He seems like someone who'll have strong personnel suggestions in the draft, but will be glad to get guys the coaches tout highly.

Norm3 you are right. The best way not to get a good coach is to hate everybody except the Eagles tremendous O-line that can't block air. Bad O-lines are the real "coach killers". RELEASE VICK TODAY so he can go to a team with a NFL offensive line.

What a lame article they were spurned by two coaches who upped their price on their positions to stay put, at their schools. They are still looking for the right guy and why not make sure you do it right, I hope they do not get a retread from the TV booth.

Spurned? Get real. Those college coaches have a pretty good life. You think everybody salivates to be the Eagle's coach instead of earning multi-millions in a situation they know and where they're treated like kings? You're too impatient for a story. Lots of good coaches still out there.

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com Reach Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com.
