One leftover from Monday night was a late post-game conversation with Michael Vick. The whole Wildcat thing has been a bit on the underwhelming side, you might have noticed. Vick completed one pass for 5 yards against the Redskins and ran three times for 9 yards with a long of 9 -- a run around the left end in which he actually, kind of looked like his old self. It has been one of the first times.

There are two theories operative now about the Eagles and Vick and the Wildcat. One is that it just hasn't looked very good in practice, and therefore hasn't looked very good in the games, and therefore they aren't using it that much with Vick in the game. The other theory is that they are keeping a bunch of stuff in their back pockets, stuff that will be unfurled starting with Sunday's game against the Giants.

So I asked Vick if they were hiding stuff for the Giants, and he said, "No, we're not hiding anything. Every week, we come up with something new. Next week, we'll have some different looks in and some different plays."

A couple of other things:

On that 9-yard run around the end: "It was the first time I was able to get out on the edge. They had been boxing me up. This time, we hit them with a different look, a shift and a quick count, and they really couldn't get adjusted to what we were trying to do. So it felt good to get out on the edge, good to open up a little bit."

On if he needs more playing time to get better: "I don't think I need to play more. Obviously, you want to play more. I wish I could play quarterback but that's not going to happen here right now."

On the job defenses have been doing so far against him: "They have to spend extra time getting ready for me, and it's tough on them sometimes -- but they've been doing a good job."

After the game, Eagles coach Andy Reid talked about how the Redskins were kind of crowding the line of scrimmage against their Wildcat looks. There are two ways to deal with that: get the running back outside rather than between the tackles, or throw the ball. And, well, we'll see. The Wildcat, like the rest of the Eagles' team, gets its first real test on Sunday.

I honestly don't know what they will look like facing their first real test after the Saints debacle. But unfortunately, itf the last two games are anything to really go by, it's gonna be pretty messy in all phases of the game. Especially kick and punt coverage...pretty poor. I've got my fingers crossed though. All good luck to our Iggles!

All the penalties and mediocre play are part of an elaborate ploy by Reid and company to lull the Giants into passivity? Reid is truly a genius!

who care about the Eagles. Jeff Lurie knew we had no shot at the super bowl, and that why he signed VICK.

You're right pista, no one in town has the attention span to pay attention to *gasp* two teams at once. Oh wait, that's just you.

When all the Eagles do with Vick is have him run the ball, then the defenses are not worried about defending the pass and stack the run and that is why he hardly gets any yardage. Also with McNabb whining every time Vick gets on the field, that does not help either. Reid has keep soothing his fragile ego.

"who care about the Eagles. Jeff Lurie knew we had no shot at the super bowl, and that why he signed VICK." I wonder why those stinking New Yorker's think they're better than us?

At this point it appears that Vick is set to become trade bait at the end of the season. Hopefully before then he'll have a few (isolated, no doubt) games where he looks good enough to warrant a 3rd or 4th round pick. He WILL NOT be on the roster next season. Bet on it.

"The Wildcat, like the rest of the Eagles' team, gets its first real test on Sunday." Wait: the Saints, the best team in the NFL at this point, weren't a "real test?" And the Skins defense, at least as the good as the Giants, who can't stop the run and have a weak secondary, wasn't a "real test?"

By taking the ball out of McNabb's hand, you mess up the rhythm of the offense. McNabb functions at his best when he gets into a rhythm. If your gonna bring Vick in.. bring him in with McNabb and go nuts. Also, what happened to Celek? They looked his way like 3 times

Vick is a waste. Reied is a waste. McNabb is a waste. No super bowl

nicolosi54, super bowl? what are you talking about? this team couldn't beat the oakland raiders and had 11 first downs against the deadskins. they did improve the mlb position to a good player. now what about that free safety who was dancing on the sideline after the eagles recovered a fumble with a 14 point lead? macho harris is a proving to be a big time looser. vick is gaining on IT. mcnabb with a healing rib wasn't taking any chances last night. it was frusting to watch but he did not turn it over and they won. i'm no 2009 mcnabb fan but he's got two weeks to play ball or the change will happen. i believe you can bet on that.

Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles.
