The Mike Richards question

About the Flyers' captain

The Mike Richards question

Q: Which Flyers player, in Game 1 against Boston -- the 7-3 loss when so many of his teammates didn’t show up, the game that sent the whole thing careening out of control -- scored a goal, was on the ice for only one of the seven Boston goals, was out there for only about three or four scoring chances against, tied for the team lead with eight shots on goal, and did it all as he began his eighth month with torn cartilage in his left wrist that required surgery at the end of the season?

A: The guy that so many people seem to doubt as the team’s captain.

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at Reach Rich at
