Shawn Andrews surgery today

POSTED: Thursday, December 3, 2009, 9:38 AM

For all of the people who doubted whether or not Shawn Andrews really has a back injury, well, unless the surgeons are just going in for the hell of it, it can be said for sure that Andrews really has a back injury. He has been on Twitter for days, pointing to a second surgery, and Thursday apparently is the day.

Through all of his digital ramblings, one point has remained clear throughout Andrews' ordeal: that he is firm in the belief that Eagles head coach Andy Reid remains very much in his corner.

Now comes another reiteration, as they prepared to wheel him into the operating room:

BIG RED I'm dedicating a successful surgery to you coach.. Love u man! Thanks again for not giving up on me.. U da u da best coach u da best

Andrews does not sound like someone who believes his Eagles career is over.

BallsDeep - The “people in charge” are thinking about extending Reid’s contract so, no I do not think they know what they are doing. And no, I don’t care about his record over the past ten years. I have seen his in game coaching and it sucks.

If you are going to criticize Shawn Andrews' toughness or question his injury now, you have zero credibility UNLESS you yourself undergo 2 major back surgeries within the next year (and do the months of hard rehab, too.) Go ahead now! Go find that doctor who will do your first unnecessary back surgery. This is the only way left to prove your point. Go now! Start researching whether you'd like general anesthesia or an epidural, as they both have risks on top of the actual surgery near your spine...

ONLY reason he loves Big Red is he hasnt cut him yet and they continue to pay him ridiculous money to do absolutely nothing for the team. Amazing that this has been going on for 2 years, yet Sheldon Brown plays his heart out every game. Whether he's hurt or not, Sheldon gives his all yet Banner and Reid won't give him the time of day when it comes to contacts.

Yes he's weird, but don't throw stones in a glass house if you never had back troubles. I can only imagine what he's going through at his size.

Wait, mikecal36, Captain, and sla6yer, you didn't realize that all the people commenting on here have both medical degrees and PhDs in psychology and encounter Shawn Andrews personally on a regular basis, and are thus able to comment knowingly about his "lack of heart" and his phony back injury?

Wow your right prosecuter just realised who I was talking to on here. LOL People are so ignorant. Same people who will be so happy when this team is deep in the playoffs and will pledge there allegence to them during the run. then if don't win it all will say I knew it. Just totally ridiculous the level of ignorance of some people. If you have nothing but complaints about Andrews Reid Mcnabb and so on go root for the cowboys or giants. I live in Buffalo but a huge eagles fan. people see eagles fans as complainers about Mcnabb and reid. Its people like these people that give true eagles fans a bad name.

Said earlier in the week, I've questioned his heart, but back pain is serious stuff, they found something wrong and they are attempting to fix it, he was a quality player in the past, hopefully he will again in the future. You don't just dump a man 'cause he has surgery, let's be patient and see how it goes next season, just sayin'...

please people, he is hurt, its certain he is bullsh..ing here. The guy is having his back cut on AGAIN. He wasnt lying, he is hurt. Lets hope he can come back without pain next season, it would be a huge plus for the eagles. He could go back to guard and solidify the o line.

Andy Reid has a history of not giving up on guys. Sometimes it works out for the team and sometimes it works out even more for the player (Correll Buckhalter - after three knee surgeries and nearly three complete missed seasons - ended up as a valuable backup in his last three years here. Derrick Burgess - who missed over two years worth of games in his 4 contract years - ended up a key contributor in the 2004 post-season as the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl). Though, let's be honest, sometimes it doesn't even work out at all (Jerome McDougle). One thing that all of those snake-bitten guys didn't have when Reid continued to hold onto them: a single pro-bowl appearance. Shawn Andrews has two Pro-Bowl selections to his name. Reid, at the very least, has to give the guy a chance to win a spot on the team. Shawn's got too much proven talent and additional potential to just let him walk.

It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest.
