For all of the people who doubted whether or not Shawn Andrews really has a back injury, well, unless the surgeons are just going in for the hell of it, it can be said for sure that Andrews really has a back injury. He has been on Twitter for days, pointing to a second surgery, and Thursday apparently is the day.

Through all of his digital ramblings, one point has remained clear throughout Andrews' ordeal: that he is firm in the belief that Eagles head coach Andy Reid remains very much in his corner.

Now comes another reiteration, as they prepared to wheel him into the operating room:

BIG RED I'm dedicating a successful surgery to you coach.. Love u man! Thanks again for not giving up on me.. U da u da best coach u da best

Andrews does not sound like someone who believes his Eagles career is over.

Well, I hope he gets this fixed and he and his brother prove themselves next year. This year has been injury ridden, and it started with the Andrews brothers. A lot of people will hate on them and say they are soft, but the back is a tough area to fix. We could definately use Shawn next year.

After the surgeon cuts his back, the Eagles must cut him! Cut his sister too!

So it took him 8 weeks to figure out he needs surgury, and are finally doing it now? I'll bet any money, by the start of the preseason next year, he won't be ready.

Maybe they could insert a heart during the surgery.

The 610 ditto-heads are out in force already today I see. 2 back surgeries in 2 years and you still question his heart? Really? You people act like he personally let you down. He has a bad back. It's an injury. Get over it. Tools.

How long do we hang on to this guy hoping he gets his stuff together and is healthy enough to play? It's time to cut ties with him and his brother. I'm not hating on them, just fed up and think it's best if we just move in another direction. Now I have to go and "Get my Michael Phelps on!"

"I'm not hating on them, just fed up and think it's best if we just move in another direction." Why would you cut a guy you just gave a bunch of money too when he had major reconstructive knee surgery not even a year ago, when you havent even seem him healthy. Believe it or not the people in charge actually know what they are doing. How many offseasons of the management signing prime-time players does it take for you morons to believe they are on your side?

People are so ignorant on here. First he has depression and ignorant people have no understanding or compasion for him. then the man is on second back surgery but has no heart. Also to rampage I am guessing the doctors and team took into account when next season starts and when to have surgery. People forget how good he was before this. He will be back at some point. I am pulling for him.

About Rich Hofmann
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com
