Hard to figure Rollins ahead of Hanley Ramirez, but if you look at the numbers, it's not like Ramirez is having a great season at the plate, and Rollins' defense is solid. Reyes must be getting a big New York vote - this year he should not be within shouting distance of the All Star game. Manny Ramirez has no business up there at all!

I vote for the players I think deserve it. I don't have this blind devotion to my Phils. I'm glad Raul is up there now and that Manny is falling. It's a joke that Adrian Gonzales is fourth at first base. He leads the majors in HR while playing in a park the size of Montana.

Chooch should be in the game this year. Jimmy obviously should not. Raul has been great. Werth-less should be bat boy.

If for no other reason but it gives me the chance to see what Hateraide looks like flowing from a natural stream, I'm glad to see Jimmy Rollins on top of the short-stop voting. You guys are absolutely amazing!

We need to step it up for Victorino and get Beltran out of the starting lineup, just because I hate the Mets.

Vote for Zimmerman. Feliz can't get there, but Zim's a good kid who can overtake David Wright with our help.

Also remember to vote for suckiest AL players so we can get home field for the World Series.

Rollins' D deserves AllStar consideration. Bowa was an All Star in 76 with a .584 OPS, Rollins 09 OPS is .583. Plus, Jimmy didn't get to the AS game his MVP year, so what's wrong with a little payback?

J-Roll doesn't deserve it on performance, but since when has All-Star voting ever been about performance? As long as the fans are the ones voting, it'll be mostly a popularity contest. Conveniently for baseball, the best performing tend to be the most popular each year, but the truth is most ballpark patrons are working with a knowledge base that includes the players for their team and the handful of other names they've heard in the news, and that's it. If you want pure performance-merited selection, turn the process over to the sportswriters.

About Rich Hofmann
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com
