Flyers fans voted most disruptive

POSTED: Friday, February 6, 2009, 4:45 PM
ESPN.com polled 193 NHL players on all 30 teams on a variety of questions. One of them concerned which fans in the league were the most disruptive.

You know who won.

In a landslide.

Fully 24 percent of the players surveyed said that Flyers fans were the most disruptive fans in the league. Next closest were Montreal fans, who received 13 percent of the vote. Detroit, aka Hockeytown, got only 3 percent of the vote.

Most disruptive apparently doesn't translate into Stanley Cups. What is it, 33 years now?

Fans don't play, so they don't win Stanley Cups. Just what is "most disuptive?" They cheer more, make more noise? Only once did some idiot throw a smokebomb on the ice and the other fans let security know who it was. If making noise hurts the other team's concentration, so be it. Teams hated to come to the Vet and the Eagles used that to their advantage.

UncleEddie - Why would this convince the folks at 610 of anything? What does this have to do with the team's popularity? Nothing... Truth is, they don't talk about the Flyers on 610 because not enough people care... Maybe it's because hockey is a second-tier sport. They should start another station on which they only talk about teams such as the Flyers, Kixx, Wings and Soul... Then we wouldn't have listen to you whine.

duffers: At least the Flyers put quility teams on the ice year after year. And management is always commited to winning. As for "Disruptive fans" thats a good thing. Visiting players only wish they had fans like Flyers fans.

About this blog
Rich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles. E-mail Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com Reach Rich at hofmanr@phillynews.com.
